Not two people thats for sure in 08 when it came out there were numerous threads here about that issue, me included. Do a search for wet left boot on here and see what comes up. From duct tape to caulking it was tried until that plate came out for 20 bucks. So they cant figure every possible scenario with a 20 dollar plate, it keeps a few thousand feet dry versus 2 so far clutch replacements which they dont even have to cover b/c you didnt get the extended warranty. I'll take my plate so far.

2 clutches that you know of. There is no way a blown belt should cause this damage, and there are other "$20" fixes that could have prevented this. I have the bottom plate now removed, so if my foot gets too wet I'll let you know.

Im not trying to bash if I was in your shoes I would be pissed too and this is where a good dealer comes into play. I am just trying to show that what was a huge deal in 08 and was fixed is now causing an issue to a much smaller population 3 years later. How would engineers get anything fixed and how much would it cost if they spent 300 hours researching every conceivable scenario?

I change my belt at least every 1500 miles... sometimes every 1000 just for performance alone. I don't know if its my mind playing tricks with me or not but I like the feeling of a belt with 100-600miles on it. Maybe thats just me... I use the XS belts.

I just sold my 03 RX1, 8800 miles, original belt. Looked like new, no visable wear or cracks. No top cord pop out. Sled was ridden HARD.

Also sold my 07 Phazer FX 3800 miles, never changed the belt.

I hope my Nytro dosnt end up being a belt eater.

belt

Lost my first belt on first ride of the season at 1165 miles, inspected before ride and it looked good. I think storing the sled with the belt on may be the problem, I will remove and replace with a new one every year from now on, just makes good sense.....1900 miles is pretty darn good for a belt, you guys getting 5k must really be conservative......Just Kiddin ...lol

ever seld i have ever owned seems to eat belts.......hmmm, yah. I have no idea but only one thing has remained a constant. !!!......at least it didn't take out you oil pump chain !!!

belt life is not the point. That unnecessary aluminum plate is the point. It was that shield that caused the damage, not the belt. As far as the dealer can tell, the bottom plate serves no useful purpose. As a previous poster pointed out, there are 2 plates. The bottom one caused the problem, and is completely unnecessary.

I wasn't saying that a new belt isn't worth it. I was just stating what the price is in Canada. Just reinstating the fact that Canadians get ripped off. Same as japanese made sleds/atv's needing alterations just because they are outselling american made sleds/atv's.

The bottom line is that belts fail. 500 miles, 5000 miles, who knows they just do. The post was to make us aware of a possible problem which yamaporn did. Take the information and do what you want but don't bust someone for posting or giving their 2 cents.

Thanks for the info.

Sorry billey100 but a good engineer always should research every conceivable scenario. That's what engineers do!

brings up a good question...seems like the belts are blowing much faster than with the rx/rs sleds?

maybe something isnt right with the nytro's settings?

It's due to the fact that there isn't a gear Reduction on the Nytro. The nytro's are harder on all clutch parts as a result!!!

good point never thought of this..Im betting the harmonics which is revealed in clutch rattle is part of it too but then again that would be eliminated with gear reduction..
