Same thing happened to me last year, going across lake at 90+ and boom! So I stopped took the shrouds off and 2-3" pieces of belt and cord all over and the bottom plate was folded up underneath the clutch. So the clutches didn't get damaged, thankfully. The upper foot guard above toe bar was bent by the chunks of belt the came off at that speed (that surprised/shook me a little).
I expect belts to blow. Thats why I carry a spare. This belt was new in the beginning of season. It was the end of the season, no problem, new belt. But for those that previously have said to check/replace your belts more often and this won't happen is a bunch of crap (in most cases). I would ask them if they carry a spare belt? If so, and they live by their own advice, then why carry another belt. If they check/replace their belts more often and this doesn't happen then I guess there is no reason for them to carry another belt.

I beg to differ on this statement. I brought my 2009 Nytro RTX SE to them after the belt blew. The outer sheave of the primary was cracked. Before it was even off the trailer the dude from service told me it was not covered. I told him it was and because I had just spent over 11,300 bucks that it WILL BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY or I was going to raise the biggest stink they ever experienced. I left it there. Well month went by and no call from them that it was done so I stopped by to see what was up. The bastages never even touched it and then to boot the fukkers left it sitting outside in the rain and sun for a month. I flipped out and threatend them with a lawsuit if it wasnt repaired. Still nothing. I had to do all the footwork myself with Yamaha. When I talked to the warranty dept I was informed that they had never heard from RJs reguarding my sled. WOW!!!!!! I was then informed that it would be completely covered and RJs would be gettin a good scolding for lack of better words. I will never buy another thing from them again. They can kiss my azz. Pricks! 5 Season sports outta Eveleith will be my new yammie dealer from now on.Super Sled said:cwcsrx700 said:Luke you have the best dealer in north america.

Same thing happened to me on my 09 XTX with only about 500 miles on the belt. The outside of the belt disinegrated, but lucky it pushed that aluminum piece behind the secondary so I didn't do any damage to the secondary. I had also hear that Yamaha maybe had a bad line of these belts go out. So def not the rider fault here if you ask me.

I'm picking up 5 new belts tomorrow. After around 700 miles they go in the dumpster. I should have enough to get through the winter.

Wow Crank Shaft, that would piss me off to the extreme. That is bad service. They've always covered my issues very well, even when they didn't have to.
It just goes to show you how discretionary these warranty things are with the service department and how they communicate things to Yamaha.
If that ever happened to me like that I'd never go back there either. But then again, I'd call up Ray himself after about 2 days if they did not give me a straight answer. Too bad, dude!

Just an update, I drilled two holes through the aluminum piece and through the plastic, then I took another piece of aluminum and drilled mathcing holes. I took the aluminum piece and placed it on the bottom of the plastic and then riveted the top piece of aluminum to the bottom piece so it's nice and secure.
And wow, I can't believe over 3,000 views on this post!!!! I hope it has helped.

had something similar happen to me last year, had a day of excellent trail riding with a stretch of about 5 miles of perfect, flat, smooth, wide open trail, and i was holding it to the bar, then all of a sudden the rpms went up about 200,then dropped, and then a loud bang and that was it,pieces of belt, and cord were all over the place, the guys i was riding with, and myself included had never seen a belt blow that bad.took a chunk out of the belly pan ripped that chunk of aluminum plate off,we had to take the secondary clutch apart just to get all the belt strings out,it really sucked.have a drag n fly kit on it so i just blamed on myself for not inspecting the belt and clutch before taking off for the day.HRD2PLZ said:Same thing happened to me last year, going across lake at 90+ and boom! Happened to me on last ride of the year last spring. Rode a mud trail for two miles and then belt blew. Not surprised the belt went since I am sure it got very hot and had a full season on it. The belt was in a million pieces (have seen many belts blow but never in that many pieces). I was lucky the worthless wet foot guard didn't ruin my secondary. I bought Klim boots to take care of that issue.

I am not so sure about these 8dn belts anymore. Seems like since they changed the suffix from 00 to 01 they blow into a million pieces at 1,500 miles or less. I used to run them 2,000 miles and then just change them for the hell of it. It could be the 4 strokes just slip them more and build more heat causing this too. I have a Carlisle belt to try this year along with the 8dns.

Change your clutching!!! The belt slips alot on the bottom end and mid range on these sleds especially when you go in softer snow, which is really being hard on the belt. Call Ulmer and install a clutch kit and it will eliminate your blown belts, unless your motor is out of alignment.

Yeah I just ordered the 14.5 rollers and a helix from Ulmer along with a temp gauge. Hope it helps. $270 for this stuff couldn't afford the full blown clutch kit right now.

Motor alignment is great and I already have his kit to go with his turbo. And brake pads only last about a season and a half....
