Giving strong consideration to a high mileage (8,000) 09 Nytro XTX to add to the stable. I know the motors are solid, but what else should I give special attention to or look for in the purchase? My last Yamaha was a Sno-Scoot! Currently on a very well set-up 09 FST Switchback (that I am very pleased with). How will it compare in ride and handling?

Thanks for any feedback or advice!

First of all Welcome. 8000 miles is not high on a Nytro engine you don't even need to check the valves until 25,000. I would think it would be a good idea to try and ride one and see how you like it and as you know we all own them and would be partial. I love my XTX and have done a lot of upgrades to make it handle they way I ride. The motor in this thing is incredible and most snowmobile magazines will say it is the best 4 stroke snowmobile engine out there and very reliable.

Good luck

Pete

Although many people here have done their fair share of mods to their Nytros, I would suggest that you first inquire on a few upgrades to this 09. Firstly...front end bushings. Oilites are a good choice if the oems need replacing...which they most likely have a few times if they are the Yammie plastic ones. Exhaust donuts....same thing. Copper replacements are the answer. . Spindle bushings.. ? Other than these few things, many of us have added a much needed steering relocate...different skis...bigger lugged track for off trail and if u like night riding I would strongly suggest HID's or anything brighter than the oem bulb. Definetely find out if the subframe is straight or if it has a gusset kit on it already. Yamaheaters and a bigger tank will be a plus too. Like Herndonp said...8k is nothing for these motors. I love my 09 xtx....drove SkiDoos for yrs prior. I plan on having this sled for a while! Very capable.
