09 RS Venture GT Noise & Vibration

At the first of March, I traded my 2004 AC T660 non-turbo for a new 08 RS Venture GT. I won't bore you with the details, but lets just say the T660 left me stranded for 3 out of 4 consecutive weeks. It had less than 4000 miles on the ODO. I absolutely love the Yamaha. Unlike some that have posted here the set up for me on my sled was perfect from the start. The dealer set this sled up perfectly for my weight and riding style. I ride with a Ski-Doo 2008 GTX 600 class machine and a 2005 T660 Turbo and was outdoing both sleds in the twisties right from mile 1. I just put the machine up this week and have 1030 miles on her now. This is the best dealer set up sled I have ever owned, it doesn't push in the corners, it is very stable and it cuts the corners like a knife. I did have 6" duel carbides installed along with 54 studs down the middle of the track. I was briefly disappointed about not having to make adjustments when this sled is so adjustable, but it handles perfectly just as it is. Love the TY site.

track howl

Yup, welcome to the dreaded track howl. If you search out my previous post (use "yank" & "track howl") you'll see the solution I used, which is still working great after 6000 miles. I used 2 rows of studs raised slightly w/ a washer, in line w/ the inner idlers to support the idlers between the lugs. This eliminates the washboard vibration that causes the howl. I can't believe Yami is still producing sleds w/ this major defect in 09. Mine is an 05. Only AC has figured out a factory solution w/ their patented "Quiet Track", which utilizes the same principle of supporting the idlers between the lugs. I was just experimenting w/ my 06 rage today, which has the howl, albeit to a lesser extent. I pulled all 6 idlers & it was completely silenced. Not sure if the stud solution will work on a rage since most of the idlers are on the ouside of the rails, & I don't want to put studs there. Might use a combination of elevator bolts & new rubber idlers to remedy.

I put on a AC quiet track on my 06 Vector GT 2 yrs. ago. It took out almost all the howeling and vibration. Notice most on real hard trails.

WHen i ride alone on Venture, noise is close to none. This is with the added passenger weight that the thing is real. I too, have swaped out the Ripsaw for a 1" IceAttack. That, along with 10 idlers made a big improovement.

I to have the same problem with my 09 GT I bought it new in AUG. It has 250 miles on it now. I have read most of the forum topics on this and I have used ear plugs and it works. (cheap to) When you guys talk about oversize wheels know one says anything about type and size. Its seems this would be the next less costly solution to this problem. I would like to try this just need some mfg and part numbers. Replacing tracks or studding is not what I want to do with a new sled. By the way it is a wonderful sled I just love it just not the track noise.

Welcome Lureman, The simplest option is to contact Ulmer Racing, a site sponsor and a GREAT vendor, and purchase Excel's replacement wheels. I just installed them on my 2011 Apex XTX and they are a straight bolt on. Nice design with replaceable bearings. I did install Polaris wheels on my Attak, but to properly install these you should machine .0625 of the mounts. Any other questions, ask away!!

Thx Dave for the reply. Checked out the excel 135.8 mm is a big difference from 129mm stock. I looked at my outside wheels and they are about 10 mm off the track . I could not see the inside because of snow and ice. This is my 2 cents I suspect the stock bearings in the wheels are vibrating it would explain why some sled have noise and other don't. Some of the stock wheels would be tight and others lose.quality of stock wheels suck I suspect also that much gap between wheel and track would cause some sort of slapping or vibration. When I take my wheels off I'm going to inspect each wheel and document so I can post. My sled has very low miles under 500 miles Things should be tight

Update on my sled. This last weekend got on the GT and did 140 miles. I loosened my track and the noise was greatly reduced. but still did not solve the wear on the hyfax. But good news just like everyone has said they wore down just so far and that was it. I have 900 miles on my sled now and just love it. I'm going to run the rest of this winter on these slides and next fall will install the excel wheels and new hyfax. I'm thinking this will be the ticket :yam:
