I wanted to test this, but time ran out and now I want a couple of other opinions:

As I once took the sled up the hill without my helmet, I recall that it seemed pretty dang quiet (not a fast cruise). Now when helmeted, it seems rather loud (OK this hasn't been covered enough, right?). Even slow, I recall it being kind of loud.

While it seems logical that with the head covered in the helmet, that noise should be decreased, is it possible that the track noise is a freaky resonance of the noise bouncing around inside of the helmet? I also have a slightly larger helmet than my pin-head (but I don't like cutting off the circulation of a smaller helmet )and know that when I shift my jaw there's a little less noise. This could be be because of a tighter fit around the jaw or possibly because the ear drum is connected to the wind-pipe.

I recall the track was a little loud, on my daughter's rage, but the trail was hard packed and low snow and first time I ever rode a 136 inch track, so could be a combination of both. It is not studded, don't know what it will sound like when it is studded. plowking
