Well I finally got my "new to me" '06 Apex out for a run. 140KMS!!..The ripsaw track on it is useless when it comes to traction...My buddies '09 Nytro with the 1.5" Intense would walk away from me...I was getting very little if no ski lift as well...What wold you suggest as a track upgrade and suspension adjustments.....Also them damn hunting skis....I was in bed with my arms still twitching for about an hour

Reduce the pressure in the floats so the A-Arms are level with the ground.

For the darting try a set of Snowtrackers. http://www.snowtracker.com/en/09_Extreme.html

You can also set the transfer rod for more transfer. That will get you more ski lift.

For a track upgrade look at either a Camoplast Cobra or 1.25" Predator. You can go to a 1.5" track but may need to remove the tunnel protectors to make it clear.

From what I've been reading a 1"predator is the way to go for speed and less weight if your picking it, I put on the bergstrom triple points and the darting is pretty much gone. Go with ski savers and shim the skis. I can drive with one hand at low speeds when passing people, no more darting.

first ..you have an apex not a nytro ( inferior sled )...you want it to lift the ski like a nytro...put a turbo on it..they are way more front heavey than the nytro..studs are a must on yammie trail sleds..the front is too heavey..so you always spin when you start off..you dont need studs if you ride like my wife...lol..but she gets 200 plus ks to a tank of gas..on her attack..studs and dual runners on the skis...search on the form and you will find what you need...if not then just post it...thats why sometimes no one will answer..they know you didnt search it..and welcome to Yamaha. ;)! .even if your a trail rider...lol...jack :yam:

I know it is not going to lift like a Nytro but I do know from years of sledding that for a track to get good hook there has to be a transfer of weight. The sleds leaves flat and I think that there should be more articulation of the rear skid to allow the track to bite..The transfer rod, I am assuming is like the ACM on the skidoo's SC series skid allows for the transfer ...But how to set the transfer rod this is my issue

How many miles on sled?? Turn it out more transfer torear turn in more to skis, I had same problem go through archives there is a posting on it should explain some more. Also how much is your limiter strap pulled down? Do you still have snow up there ???

Loads of snow in places Ice still on the ponds in central NFLD...The avalon is pretty well done for sledding....The sled has 6000 KMS...The limiter strap I don't know if it ever has been moved...Not sure how many holes are suppose to be shown on the bottom....

Don't know what it comes set from the dealer but the more you pull it down (less holes showing) the less ski lift you will get. Is the track picked??? I have 144 picks and my transfer rod is set in the middle and two sets of holes showing, I get pretty good ski lift, I also have 136" track.
I wish we had snow here this winter sucks. Trying to fix dirtbike now to pass time until next winter.

I have my transfer rod set one line past mid and second to last hole on limiter strap. My avatar picture is what I get for lift when I get my cheeks all the way back. Also was about 32f that day, hard pack brings the rear bumper to the snow.

Well first thing you need is this manual. I have it here for download if you don't have one.

I have done a fair amount of tinkering with my Apex and have it set up pretty good right now. Of course that will all change when I add the 144 extension :)

If you are going off trail then the ripsaw is not good at all. On the trail it is good but studs really help it a lot. I tried a few different things to cure the crappy skis and ended up getting a set of C&A extremes. Darting is gone. The sled will pull the skis if you have the transfer rod set correctly. I think have mine about 1/2 way out and it pulls them a few inches on the launch and then settles back after a few hundred feet. You really need them to steer :)

It all depends on your set up also a 1.5" track will always hook up better than any 1.25 track ripsaw or not.
Wet condition loose snow will give you very little hook up.
Studs are a must !
I dont really know why you would want the front skis to lift up ?
Most guys here are setting up their sleds so the front ends to stay planted around the corners.

needa long track boy cobra 5-6 mph off top end throws snow like crazy but it comes off paddles and misses rear heat exchanger it does have better traction then rpsaw but duribitalyis poor going on seal hunt this year ? ice contions are poor here wouldn't a nice white coat seal pelt be a lot better than a sheep skin
