Hey guys can't make up my mind if I want to put the 1.6" ice cobra on my sidewinder ltx le or stud the stock track. I had the 1.6" on my viper and liked it, didn't have the traction on ice like studs, it seemed pretty good on hard and loose snow trails. I also liked I didn't have to worry about putting a stud through my heat exchanger. I don't do much off trail riding but the 1.6" was nice when I did go play in the deep stuff, I just don't know how much speed I will be sacrificing with the 1.6" ice cobra and if that track is rated for 120mph, I like the idea of how much the studs are going to hook up with this beast since traction is always good, just don't know what I want to do. I am interested to hear what you guys are planning on doing.
Couple threads going on this subject...http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/lets-talk-studs.141602/ and http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/best-track.141649/
I personally have seen thrown studs a few times on different machines. I am really on the fence with the studding decision. Last year i rode unstudded with a back country 1.75" on my apex and really liked the ride. I go off trail wherever i get the chance and the extra lug really helps there. There wasn't much riding to be had so there were no icy conditions to contend with, but i remember years that were very icy and wondered how the tall lug would perform. One can go slow, but there's always that steep icy hill or icy corner that could be a PITA. I think if you're planning on lining up on an icy lake to race frequently you probly want as much stud as you can put on there. If that's not important than the Ice Cobra might be all you need. Ultimately we have to do what we feel will suit us best. Then again, i might just flip a coin!

I also have the LTX LE coming , and are contemplating , switching tracks to the 1.6 Ice Cobra , and adding regular studs also .Hey guys can't make up my mind if I want to put the 1.6" ice cobra on my sidewinder ltx le or stud the stock track. I have never had a stud thru my heat exchanger , so I don't fear that happening .
This way I will have the best of all worlds !
Mini studs , regular studs , and big lugs ! = TRACTION !
I would think Camso knows exactly what the difference in top speed is between a 1.25 ripper , and the cobra .

Will be running an Ice Attack XT on my LTX LE i believe. Way i beat on the one i had on the viper, i know a lot less horsepower but looked awesome with 5000+ miles on it. I have no hesitations running one. Also running one of the Ice Attack 1" on a 98 Mach, which has hit 110 GPS and it seemed to work fine. I emailed Camso a while ago and they said no worries about the speed wrecking either the XT or Ice Cobra.

How long are the paddles on the ice attack xt? And when you said the speed won't wreck the ice cobra were you talking about the 1.6" ice cobra?

Ice attak XT is a 1.22 with 244 of those little studs. Camso rep told me I should be fine running either track. (Attak XT or Ice Cobra). Pretty sure I posted the response I have from them in my track thread. Think the big thing will be running these sleds a bit tighter than the vipers to help prevent ballooning at high speed

I started the season with the ice attack and then went with the ice cobra. I really liked the way the cobra performed. Much more stable in corners where the ice attack would break out. My buddy ran just the regular 1.6 cobra and it was noticeably more exciting on ice than mine. On glare ice it was a bit loose but adjust your speed and its fine. Plus with less studs/traction you need less carbide and have less steerring effort.
The ice attack is for sale if anyone needs one.

how is the ice attack on hard groomed or icy trails? I never really go off trail and I was looking at the ice attack or the ice cobra, but I was under the impression the cobra would not be very good on the hard packed trails with the longer softer lugs. I figured they would be prone to fold over and cause less control? I wish they had a 1.5" prestudded track. 1.22 is a bit lacking and 1.6 seems a bit much for trails.

Worked good for me plenty of bite in a straight line. Not as much side bite as a Ripsaw derivative or even the ice cobra. It rides like a ripsaw 2.

I have put many thousand miles on a ripsaw studded track and 2,000km last winter on the ripsaw2 track and they have always been studded and I ride trails, both icy, hard packed and groomed and of course lakes, and have never had an issue with throwing studs threw the exchangers I believe that if the studs are put in right, and you are not constantly hammering the gas all the time over rocks and off trail it wont be an issue....I guess im just curious why people want to change from the ripsaw I also don't put 200 studs in mine either just usually the 3/2 pattern

For me I want more lug in the snow and don't want worn down nails. One of my riding friends never had studs on his Apex Gt and my Attak only has grabber screws but they will come out before the factory studs.

You guys realize that the SW will have more torque than any stock snowmobile you're ever ridden right?

Proper modulation of the application of the fun flipper will be required.
