If I can pass on one valuable lesson I learned to you and convince you that if you send one penny on your RX-1 make the first $30.00 you spend on a set of fuel shut off valves.
I only had a gallon or two in the tanks and trailered my machine two hundred miles to ride this week end. When I arrived at my riding destination and went to start and warm up my machine, it only took about two cranks to figure out something very bad yet expensive just happened. As it turns out on the drive all the bouncing caused the little bit of fuel in the tank to fill up the crankcase, and when I tried to fire it up it nearly exploded. If all that I end up with is a bent crank then I will be thankfull. In my opinion, a good portion if not the entire motor is toast.
I had been thinking of puting the shut off vavles on all summer, and somehow just forgot about them. That $30.00 I "forgot" about will now cost me a couple thousand at minimum including the cost of the weekends trip that was shot to H***. Well please don't make the same mistake, it will save you in the long run.

I feel sorry for you
I do a lot of trailering and never had a problem even with the tank full of gas. Actually, my sled is always full of gas because I don't want any moisture (condensation) in the tank due to change in ambient temperature! Well Good luck!

Where was the fuel shut off purchased and installed? I have done quite a bit of trailering and never ran into this problem before with anything newer. I did however run into this problem with my 95 Vmax 800. Cylinders filled with fuel and would not crank over but problem was with my carbs.
They can be purchased from YAMAHA or aftermarket around
$ 36.00 Can - plus 4 clamps $ 4.00
Here's where i mounted mine.
GOOD INVESTMENT :!: :!:

True Blue two questions
1. Where did ya get that halogen lamp for ya toolbox
2. The added cover plate! Did you have trouble with snow getting in there it's a great idea just curious, thinking of going to the ecp kit and wondered what kind of problems i might encounter without the airbox not being there to keep the white stuff out?
Nice job on the shutoffs by the way.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)

Convert,
Thats not a halogen light its my lic plate reflecting
also i did the cover just to make it look tidy and thinking
that its a good place for snow to build up.
Its just a hard plastic boot mat ($7.00 ??)cut out and used
velco to mount it on delta frame. 8) 8)
This K&N's complete setup is the best bang for the buck.....

I trailer a couple hundred miles one way and never had an issue with my RX-1. But I too will play it safe and install one more mod on my Warrior

I had a total of three thousand miles from last year and never had a problem. We have some pretty rough roads up here in Alaska as well and never had a problem. All I can say is.....It only takes once.

I read about this issue last season, and even posted a thread on this site asking others for advice. Everyone said no problems since all prior Yamaha's never had an issue. There were several complaints about a $9,000 sled and no shut-off valve. I even called Yamaha in California for advice since it clearly states in the owners manual to not trailer the RX-1 with fuel. Yamaha told me that it should not be problem.
1FunRX1, I believe your situation, but maybe should call Yamaha and see if they will do anything for you. If it would have been a serious problem last season, I would have expected the '04 models to come with a fuel shut-off valve.

Now that I think about this, it shouldn't cost you a penny! You did exactly what the manual stated. I'm not one for sueing, but this is different. Get ahold of Yamaha and if they don't take care of this, sue them!

1FunRX1 sorry to hear about this happening to you  I feel for you buddy  But on the other hand I want to personally thank you for warning us of this potential catastrophy that could actually happen  I will surely install shutoff valves on mine
TRUEBLUE nice bracket you have there  Thanks for the idea!
For all of your information J R Graham Powersports Warehouse phone number 1-800-432-2238 has both straight and right angle shut off valves 1/4 inch, a new one uses double neoprene seals with two standard o-rings for about $8. a piece. They also have three different type of clamps including ss worm drive, clip style and universal style( similar to stock) They take orders seven days a week and you will usually recieve your order the very next day. 8)

Good point Mighty how is one supposed to know anyway if the level of the gas in the tank is below the bottom of the carburetors  I think Yamaha will have no choice but to take care of this unless of course they claim he syphoned the gas out after the fact. Either way good luck RX1Fun hope you get it fixed soon the seasons just starting ![Frown :( :(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)

Mighty is right! You only had one or two gallons in your tank! They should accept responsibility. Tell them your keeping everyone on TY updated on your progress with them 8)
