Just pulled my secondary off for a good cleaning and while inspecting (on the machine) my primary...I noticed that my primary has what looks like some heat or stress cracks……My clutches have always ran fairly cool….I am actually kind of surprised to find something like this…..What do you guys think…..Is this clutch going to make another 1000 miles this winter….Is there any possibility it will blow apart on me……??? Thanks…..JD

That is very common. When the cracks spread up the faces replace immediately. I have seen em last major k,s after those small inner hairline cracks.

Shaft looks a little dark, maybe from the heat? Do you run tight deflection? Does the belt sqeel?

Mine did that at about 12000 miles thats caused by all the heat cyccles it goes thru even though you think it is running cool it does get warm there at the bottom from engagement. that belt sheave cost about $80.00 so it ain't the worst.

after another 100 miles today

Yes, my last new belt was squeeling a bit….but I never really let it sit and idle for long….hopefully that is not the cause……Regardless….what should I do….I put on 100 miles this morning and it actually looks like it may have progressed…..Can I replace the sheaves or should I be replacing the entire clutch? Secondly if I have to replace everything…is there a better clutch. Will a Polaris clutch fit……I don’t have much experience in this area at all…..

you can just replace the sheave ,like I said that one next to the motor is around 80.00 dollars if the other one is also cracked you might want to look for a good low milage used one.

Thanks guys for the advice.....I guess at best 2 new sheaves are in order.....I will weight out the cost of that, or either a complete clutch. Decided to not ride today....what a bummer too.....we have gotten about 20 cm overnight....Oh well, I’ll get some brownie points at home and clean the driveway a guess….Thanks for the advice......JD

john ,igot another primary you could borrow if you need to go riding while you wait for parts.let me know.rx1 fern.

Thanks Fernando.....Just Pm'd you.....Awsome

Change it !!!!!!!!!!!! It will come apart when they get that bad. It is from slippage at engagement. I would carry spare clutches when I was racing and they started to show any signs of cracking. Not bad for over 11,000 miles. Don't slip the belt on takeoff if you can help it.
