Thinking of selling my 08 rtx for a 09 xtx for the occasional off trail excursion. I like the idea of the tipped up rail but heard it pushes in corners. Cost comparison, I was weighing out an extension to 136 for the rtx. Anyone have any long term reviews on these from ulmer or hartman ( suspension action and handling ). I am getting tired of being the guy that gets stuck going off trail when following the rest of the short track sleds.

www.oftracing.com They make a extension for 121 to 136 that is tipped up, much like the xtx rails are. That should help with the pushing in the corners.
I'm stretching mine to a 136, haven't ridden it yet tho. I'd say that as long as you have it torn apart, you should throw in some extrovert drivers

Just wondering if the extended skid will be too much for the shocks and springs causing it to be too weak and bottom out often. I know that we are talking about only a matter of inches but dont know if that extra little bit will require revalving and stiffer springs. Just thinking cost wise.

I road mine as a 136 last year and hated it!!!! It was terrible corner to corner. Now those tipped rails might be the ticket

This is the stuff I am looking for. What was your complaint with it?

Not much of a long track fan here either. Too much traction for me. Prefer a looser back end. I believe it's all about driving style and what you're used to. Not to put down those that like them. More power to you. Me, been there, didn't like it, won't be back any time soon - unless it were used strictly as a cruiser. Those work really well.

I'm curious too what you hated about it. I just bought all the stuff to put a 136 cobra on mine. Didn't know about the oft tipped up rails when I bought my stuff...maybe should've done more research.

i went from 121 to 144 last year. Dont be concerned about the strength or shocks from 121 to 136. OFT tip-ups are the ticket... all the trail ride and corners you are wanting with the extra in the powder when you want to play. I had no issues with the switch - i even liked it more... more bite if you want to turn that stump into a jump!!! I went to a 153 Nytro MTX for this year as i wanted more. Send Scmurs or Moto a PM and they will answer any questions you may have or see their website at www.oftracing.com. Great guys to work with. I put the relocator, steering billet and wheels from them on my Nytro already. But like Sleddingfarmer said - do some research - listen to what others are doing and what they like and dont like about what they did and why and then make a decision.

We at Muffin Works also have rail extensions available in our product line this year. We have them in 136 and 144 versions ... straight rail, or with a 6 deg tip up.

If purchased with a tunnel extension there is a 5% package discount. Check out our website for details.

We not only sell our products, but we fabricate them also. This allows us to control our own inventory, lead times, and quality ... resulting in a lower cost past on to our customers through pricing.

My main concern would have to be the handling department but dont want to forget durability. I really appreciate all the info on this subject. If anyone has some big miles on these extensions please give any pros or cons on them. Thanks!

I just could never get into a rhythm corner to corner on that sled. I didn't feel confident going into corners like I did on my Apex LTX. I'm going to ride my sled as a 121 this year. I'll let you know how I feel about it after I ride it a few times.

The 136 cobra is awesome on the trail. I ran the same track and loved it

i am also considering rail extensions, would be paticulary interested in whether the off trail performance improved, and if the rear suspension can handle the extra length?

I ran a 144 ext with a ripsaw track and it ripped sh** up on the trail. I also had double carbides on my ski's so it grabbed and took corners like it was on rails! Off trail was more fun - less worries about getting stuck, plenty of track to grab and power up and out and still carve. It was perfect in my mind! In regards to the suspension and the strength with the added legth. I am 6'2" and fill up a 2XX jacket so while i had the same concerns - they were quickly dismissed. I rode the mustard bucket like i stole it and ended up with some heavy tail landing at times. I will never go back to a 121 now after going with a longer track.
