I have a stock 07 FX(18 tooth) with an Ulmer clutch kit and I was wondering how much a 17 tooth gear would affect my clutching set up. Would there be a significant increase in shift rpm?

I am also considering an airbox mod either Schmidt bros pods in stealth mode or Ulmer. The pods are significantly cheaper. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these or comparisons between them. Is the Ulmer mod worth the extra$$? I have heard it should be quieter. How much would either of these affect the clutch settings? They both claim about the same hp gains, I believe Allen developed his on the dyno.

What about combining these mods?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

i know when i changed my gearing from a 20 tooth to the 17 tooth but i extended the track to a 151 my rpms stayed the same i would guess they should go up any where from 200 rpms to 500 roms

The Ulmer airbox mod is no difference in noise.

If you do the airbox mod, reduce your gear you will definitely need to clutch for it as you will gain I would say at least 300-500rpm.

If you are going for the stealth approach you could also get a PCIII or PCV and still look and sound stock.

Good luck

What exactly does Ulmer do to the airbox? Anyone have a picture?

Haha if we posted a pic Ulmer's wouldn't have a service to offer....

Ya it's expensive but they did the research and paid for the dyno time...

I'm all about paying for the service, just wondering what exactly is done that gives it 3-4hp. I could probably put together a clutch kit on my own as well, but i'd gladly pay the money for the piece of mind, knowing I got something that is tried and tested.

Is fuel tuning required when you add frogskinz, ulmer airbox, air pods, etc? Or can you run any of these without additional tuning?

You can get away without fuel if you are doing 1 mod.

My opinion is if you do airbox and exhaust you are asking for trouble without adding fuel. But I am sure some guys are and may not have had trouble. You wont get the full benefit of hp without adding fuel.

But I don't think air/fuel mods will get you much as far as "feeling" the power.

1 - new track and/or studs
2 - exhaust and/or clutch

anything else i did couldn't notice much of a difference...i am considering the MPI kit at 7lbs boost

good luck
