I do know they were testing a new sled up in the UP. For whatever reason they decided not to let it out yet. It might have to do with Yamaha cutting back production by about 60% after the 2010 season. The prices are going to go way up after 2010 too.
Where did you here they were cutting back production to 60 percent. If that's the case, they may just close the snowmobile devision.

I heard it from Pat's in Greenland. I was getting prices from them on new 2010's when they mentioned it to me.

They can't outbid the market or they will have 0 sales...

If Pat's is a dealer, then I hold no value in that statement... Dealers are almost last to know anything and besides the internet, they seem to be the worst to start rumors..

They are a dealer. The thing is they have a tie with Yamaha unlike most dealers do. They rent land from Pat to test on several times a year. Usually you can take it to the bank with those guys. This is the place I saw the RX-1 proto the year before it hit the snow. Same with the Nytro.

ATTENTION EVERYONE: I just took delivery of my brand new apex GTX NOS edition 185hp. Man it flies! j/k hahaha I wish

If it really is a 165hp sled 4 cylinder, how much R&D do they really have in it. The motor was already there, they may have just tweaked it. Just like what they did to the R1 bike. They just keep tweaking it.
Even if not identical in all details, the current sled engine is comparable to the 2002-2003 R1 engine. Since then we have seen the 2004-2006 R1 (still five valve but much more rpm), the 2007-2008 R1 (four valve) and finally the 2009 crossplane crankshaft ("big bang") R1.

Anyone notice how there is no longer a apex rtx for 2010?
Anyone notice the way the spring order is not model specific?
Not saying it will happen, but Yamaha has set things up so they can do a late spring release if they think the market will support it.
Time will tell. I KNOW they have the sled. Just a matter of when its released.
By the way, its 185hp not 180.
Get it right.

How do you no they have this sled ????

Sorry, I cant give any more info besides above post due to non-disclosure agreement.
Trust me, there is a sled.

OK now this rumor is starting to get some legs! See what one simple post can start. Come on Yamaha we will buy it!!!!!!!!!!!

A spring release would make total sense. 1) it helps dealers that are struggling with unsold inventories. 2) Yamaha can wait to see what the other O.E.M.'s have done before playing their hand 3) this would cause us to be talking about snowmobiling all spring ,summer and fall. I know that Yamaha and many manufacturers are in a tough spot but something like this could build some momentum and maybe jump start sales for next year.

Heh. I do enjoy these discussion forums... ;)!

I can see how this thread is going to play out - it's going to be just like the 2010 new model scenario....the same self-building hype, everybody making everybody else increasingly certain that some new Yamaha sled is going to be released. Then, when it isn't, the shrieking about what a crappy company Yamaha is will again be deafening.

Oh, and let's not forget the yowling when we find out what this new 185 HP miracle sled will cost.

Ho ho...you already violated your NDA....

...wish I had a nickel for every time I've seen "the inside scoop" posted on the internet.

Crossplane R1 Engine??

I took one of my clients from Europe out on the trails yesterday who is involved with Yamaha advertising and Bike racing and mentioned this subject. He seems to think that they are putting the R1 Crossplane crankshaft engine into the sled. We have Yamaha up at the Snodeo next weekend will do some digging but if you look at the specs and the characteristics of this engine it certainly makes sense.
