1979 yamaha exciter 440 QUESTION???

What was the weight , HP, and top speed of this sled!!


We were having a debate about it at work today i said Top speed is 65!!

my 1974 gp 433 went 75 mph on radar gun bone stock might have been 1973 to much beer back then :? but i remember the the cop (DAD) set up in the front yard man that was fast back then :lol:

Our '80 Enticer 300 would run 65mph...my cousin had a late 70's Exciter 440, it hauled #*$&@ for a little sled. I'd say more like 80 or possibly better, really!

I had a 76 & a 79 440 Exciter. It probably only weighed 350lbs.Remember it was fan cooled, like most sleds back in the day ! with a simple leaf frt susp. & about 3 in. of travel in the back :? I think it had about 65-70 hp.Ran well for a single carb.seem to remember seeing 80-90 mph .The 76 was actually quicker , but had terrible fuel mileage- about 6-8 mpg :shock: with only a 6 gal tank. Was always getting towed into town even after strapping cans to the running boards ! In 79 they changed the carb & upped the gas tank to 8 gal :!: which helped greatly. overall a great sled :wink:

I have a pair of 80 440 Exciters that have been together since new. I am the third owner and the serial #'s are 5 digits apart.They both run 80+.
