Having carb issues with an old 400 kodiak is just picked up. It starts and runs fine, idles good, accelerates good, the problem being, if you "whack" the throttle or accelerate quickly, it kills the motor. I've been through the carb twice now, its all clean, no blockages, pilot screw been tried in every position. Do these carbs have an accelerator pump? Would this be the diaphragm on the right hand side? It looks good, but maybe its leaking?? Any advice would be appreciated...........

most single cyl motors have some sort of accelerator pump on the carb. have you checked fuel flow from the petcock? air filter/intake for partial blockages?

stalling

Yes, air filter and intake checked, it is leaning out, if I restrict the air flow with my hand, it will accept a whack of the throttle.......thats why I'm thinking there must be an accelerator pump of some kind in this carb.........I've worked on lots of unit, but this carb is different, its kind of like a CV carb, except the slide is mechanical not vacuum, yet there is a small diaphragm on the side under a white plastic piece.

diaphragm

Can anyone tell me what the diaphragm on the side of the carb is for? Is this an accelerator pump?
Pilot is not plugged.......tank clean, carb clean......

Is it a primer pump for cold starts? I had an old suzuki that had a hand plunger on the carb to push gas into the intake for cold starting.

Have you checked compression? you may have a valve or ring problem.
