I got 1000 miles on mine now and have stock slides. They are down to the wear line but are holding up. My inside wheels are garbage but yamaha is gunna give me a new set (probably garbage too) Im gunna have the mono beef up kit installed this summer and a yamacharger and I think I'll be really happy
I don't know how much better the mono is in the 2010 but I did hear that this new yamaha thats coming out has the mono in it. I read it on supertrax website... So must be yamaha likes the mono or maybe the fixed it once and forall..

I change my slides each year just because they are inexpensive and I like to remove the skid and inspect for cracks, paint, and replace any worn wheels and bearings. Have never worn them out completely and I average about 1500 to 2000 miles per year. Your right that you have stated some areas that Yamaha can improve upon, but the sled is already one of the highest price tags on the market. We are all in agreement the realiability is unmatched and the motor rocks! Unfortunately we are adding to the cost of the sled, but after making the changes I have read in these forums I could not be happier with the overall performance and reliability.

Meadowbrook said:I just bought a new 09 Apex ER. Just went to Northern Maine to enjoy some great trail ridding with my new sled. Here is my take on the sled. I have been snowmobiling for over forty years and have owned every major brand. The Apex has a great motor and build quality. After riding 500 miles of good trails, the hyfax are completely worn out and one of the wheels is completely brooken. I am very surprised that after building this sled for five years, Yamaha just does not get it right nor do they want to. This is the way I see it, The clossed windows in the track do not let enought snow in to lubricate the slidders and the lack of track clips increase the friction of the track. You can really feel the resistance in the drive train and I am taking in consideration the breaking effect of the clutches. The other problem they did not address is the wheels are too small to provide adequate track support to reduce wear, and the wheels are of terrible quality. The other sore spot on the sled is the skis. They are not up to the task to provide crisp handling. I have installed a set of pro shappers and it makes a real difference, but the sled needs A out side keal and runner to not only provide improved cornering but to help the sled from tipping. Offset powder skis would be a great improvement.
If a first time buyer and user of this sled can realize the problems with this sled, then why dosent Yamaha see the light?
I raced my sled for two years and now I made it a 144". The track I run has every 3rd window closed and cliped every 3rd and I have 610 miles on and my hifax look like new. You just have to get it set up right and they will go forever. The breaking effect of the motor is the best thing to come to snowombile. You just have to learn how to keep on the gas and not drop it. And for the ski just put on a set of ski-doo poilt 6.9s.

I noticed a summary of 'fixes' from one of the moderators.
I ride the 2006 Apex (called Atak) and have had to fix a host of things (replaced skis; larger wheels, etc.)
Yes - Yamaha should have addressed at least those 2 issues by now.
