My wife and I decided to get into snowmobiling this winter. Our previous experience on snowmobiles was very limited. We bought 2 RS Vector ER's and can really only report two issues.
Before the problems, let me say the engines on these sleds are excellent. Concerning smooth operation and fuel mileage, there was no comparison with friend's sleds ... even RX-1's. We averaged just over 17 mpg with our sleds and we ran them hard. We picked them up the last week of January and put over 1,000 miles on each.
We had two problems. The suspension set-up from the dealer was WAY too stiff. I'm a heavy guy and would get tossed off the seat on the rebound after a decent sized bump. After 200 miles, we sorted out the suspension and I believe the main spring started to break in. Very comfortable ride after that. The other problem was the TORS on one of the sleds. I by-passed it and, of course, never had the problem again. I'll be returning the sled to the dealer who has promised to set up the TORS on the sled so that it will work in an emergency but will not decide to shut the engine down every time I let off the throttle.
Toys-R-Us: It's unfortunate you've had problems with back ordered parts. I understand that is a problem with other Yamaha models as well. You're right about the season being short and the need for a much better spare parts supply. Hopefully, Yamaha will deal with the issue.
After riding many different makes and models, we settled on the Yamaha RS sleds. I'm going to add to the two sleds I currently own next year. I'm ordering a 2006 RS Venture.
