Have a 2003 rx-1 and I think the gaskets are bad between the engine and the pipes. Can these be reached from the top by taking off the gas tank? or does it have to be done from under and does the track and drive axle have to come off?

access is from the top under the tank, small heat sheild 4 bolts to remove. i doubt that the gasket is bad, its probably the donuts, same area.

The exhaust donuts are usually going to be the first issue you are going to run into along with stripping the heads off the allen screws that you will need to loosen up! Cheap design. I'd soak the hell out of the with some PB Blaster or any penetrator if you before even messing with them. its That or cracked flex pipes. Good luck!

Be ready for a huge job. im doing mine now.Im about 9 hrs in.The first thing to do is.strip down the whole rear of the sled.Seat, tank, tank, handle bars, rear skid.If the bolts that hold the flex pipe to the head look rough i would advise not touching them.get under the sled heat the hell out of the allen button bolts that hold the y-pipes on.if you can get them out you will have to drill out the rivits on the bracket that hold the y-pipes.Be ready for long job.And if you have a hard time getting the rear muffler of the y-pipes.just put dead blow hammer up to the muffler and give it a wack with a maul.Best of luck.Im looking forward to getting mine back together tonight.

sounds about right. except i left my skid in. It probably would have been a hell of a lot easier with it out! I didn't even mess with the the flex pipe bolts. What a nightmare

Thanx for the help and advice. Saw the tech link posted by slvr about the apex exhaust and doesnt look too much different from the rx so its just a matter of when to get to it.
