2003 RX-1 mountain possibly?

I am new here and would like to say it is a nice forum so far from what I have seen. Just sort of looking arround at a newer sled and some input would be great. Right now I have an 01 Arctic cat 800 le and am looking to maybe get a Yamaha 4 stroke next year (unless something happens this year) just sort of looking for the ups and down of this year of RX-1 mountain? And what to expect compared to my 800, I know they are heavy, but how are they compared to the one I have now? Thanks for any advice.

Not sure where to start. They made RX-1's Mtn's between 03 and 05. In 06 they replaced them with the Apex. The stock RX-1 has a pretty bad rep for being heavy, top heavy, bad skis, bad suspension, and hard to handle. It's well earned. The apex was a big improvement in handling and though it got bigger, didn't grow in weight, but still is comparatively porky. Because people became frustrated with them, stock RX-1's can be had fairly cheap, somewhere around $3500 for an 03, most with very few miles. The good news is that although they are tough to handle, the engine is fantastic and the chassis and drive train are robust. Your Arctic Cat is probably nearing the end of it's useful life about now. My old Powder Special had two rebuilds and was a noodle at 3.5k miles. Most used RX-1's you find are just breaking in and could likely last you 10's of thousands of miles. Bottom line....if you buy a stock RX-1 and leave it stock you will probably not be very happy. If you are willing to tinker and spend a little money you can have a great, unique, sled that will run with the big boys, keep you interested, and last you good long time.

Where are you ? Like Kachess says with a little time and $ they are great sleds I have a '04 that I have turned into a cross breed of a Apex and a RX1 so I have the 162x16 track tunnel and skid out of an 06 Apex and the Mtn Skis. and I love it it changed the handeling so much it is amazin'

BTW I will most likely be parting with it late this season or early next so I can move into a Turbo Apex ...( getting a steal of a deal on turbo but it only fits a Apex not RX1) so most likely you will see it advertised for $4500-$4000

Kachess has a great list of modes that have worked well for him and many other rx-1 owners! If you like to work on modes and are mech. minded and serch for the posts on this site you will be happy. If you buy one right, even with adding the modes, (less turbo of course) you will do well price wise! Best thing is the charger and turbo opption are still open, for just a little more! If you do not like modes well you will like the Apex.
If you like a lite sled it will take time to get used to the weight. The key is to get it set up well!

I am in Canada hottshot, these things are still fairly high priced right now, but it is also prime riding time now, so I will probably wait till off season and see what pops up. I have ridden one a few times and really like the power delivery, and that sound is to die for. That is why I am considering a trade. I am not really a highmarker, I am more of a boondocker who will play on the hills, but dont really care if I get the highmark or not. After all it is fun to be out and that is why I like the sport.

doober, I picked my 2003 up last winter (January 06) for $7500, but it had no miles on it. they ride differently than a 2 stroke and, while heavy, are great fun. I'm more a go here, go there guy and play in what constitutes deep stuff here, which isn't much. I enjoy mine and am glad I went to the 4 stroke.

If you are gonna be wanting a good stocker, the 05 is the best of the 3 years with its suspension, skis (wider), handlebars (higher) and seat (softer).

An 03/04 will not impress you stock. Mine impresses me modded, but thats comparing it to stock. comparing it to other sleds i ride it doesnt so much impress me, but it does 10x more than it did stock.

Ive got 3000 in aftermarket invested in my sled and it runs good. (blue one in my sig)

my brother has 800 invested in his sled (red one in my sig) and it runs almost as good as mine. The suspension is the only place mine edges his out, but my suspension was 1800 dollars more.
