Hello all
I am knew to posting to this site but I have read many posts and I am diggin this site.
Recently I purchased a used 03' RX-1 MTN after only riding Poolaris. I just took my air box off to inspect it and noticed that its not seating perfectly on the four carbs.
Is this normal?

no. one of my sleds had that problem and we ran it for a long time like that. Finally got it fixed to stay on the carbs and it ran like a whole different sled.

The carbs boots on the air box are a big pain in the a$$ to get seated properly. To help getting them on right; install the air box until the boots are about ready to slide over the intakes. Then give the outer edge of the carb intakes a quick shot of carb cleaner and do the same to the inside of the boots. This will allow the boots slide on the carbs easier and the carbs cleaner evaporates completely to give the two surfaces a nice seal.

Well I tried your idea but evry time the box snaps down into place the freakin boots slide back off the carbs.
It seems like the boots are 1/4'' too high once the air box snaps in place.

Opps, my bad. It has been a while since I had my airbox on my sled now that I have the Supercharger. I also had to push back (actually more like pull up) on the carbs so that they would lift up and hold them until the carb cleaner evaported enough to get the boots seated properly. Then I would tighten the clamps and verify a good seal by running my finger around the inside edge of each boot and carb intake.
I usually pulled up on the two center carbs using my thumb on one and index finger on the other. If you can get enough leverage by pulling up/pushing back (by hand) on the black carb caps try that. Don't worry if you see little coolant seep out however; avoid pulling on the tubes between the carbs. This is a coolant passage for the carb heaters with o-rings at each end to create a seal and using them for a leverage point each time you re-install the airbox might prematurely wear out the o-rings

Something that worked for me is Hair Spray on both the carbs and the air box. It slides on easy and locks it on when it dries. They stayed in place good when I did that.

I always take my air box apart so I can "work" the boots on by hand and then tighten them down before I put the airbox back together.
