- 2003 yamaha rx-1 er
have a problem with the engine missing and backfires at high speed and when I start it the choke after I go past half choke seems to stall it out ,I put new plugs and coils on it, anyone have any ideas where to go from here.

Pull the carbs and really really clean the pilots, or toss them in the garbage and kit new ones.. or you have blown out your exhaust donuts.
I would check the donuts first and if those are fine then go to the carbs.

Plug both tail pipes, if it doesn't stall in 3-4 seconds then your donuts are gone or y-pipe under seat is broke, if donuts are original they're gone anyways.
If y- pipe is broke here's a great fix for that, and upgrade.

Yes Chris Schmidt does, he is one SHARP Dude, talked with him many times about everything from clutching to exhaust and every time I am amazed at how he can prove what he says.

Any rough idle, no idle, no starting, crappy performance, ect.......... that I have had with my RX1 has always been carb related. So now when I have similar issues, the carbs come off for a good cleaning. real easy job but it's a pain. I can't wait to get a fuel injected
