Trouble Idling on 05 RX1....any ideas?

Your sled is lean. When idling rpm,s are that high & choke won,t bring it down your idle circuit is wacked.

Well guys...al I know is it worked fine about a month and a half ago....now it's acting goofy. Nothing has changed between now and then except time. So I have to think it's something in the carbs.

John, both my 03 and 05 wouldn't start in August when I took them into the dealer for winter prep. First time ever for the 03 and I never did any summer prep before! The carbs were gummed up and after a good cleaning, everything was fine on both of them. I suspect you have the same problem, only not as dirty which is why it is running poorly.

Turk is right, a lean condition will occure with one or more (all) pilots clogged up with dirt. You will have to take the pilots out to inspect and clean. Sometimes you will need to blow real hard to get them fully open, dirt can get seriously stuch inside them small holes. If your fuel system is gummed up, you can have this happen over again in just minutes after you cleaned the pilots. A friend of mine had this happen 3 times in 1 hour caused by bad fuel. I can tell he was somewhat frustrated not beeing able to ride with us that day.

Had the same thing on my 03 shorty, had to clean and sinc the carbs both times cause the jets were plugged from summerizing. After clean and sinc back to running like a champ. Tried the carb cleaner and sea foam without much luck. New plugs also were in order after the clean and sinc.

UPDATE!

Guys...I had the carbs sync'd, set and cleaned. Runs awesome now....thanks for everyones help!

John :rocks:

John what caused the carb problem dirt or gum from the deteriated gas. Was the fitch installed when this sled was parked for the summer?

Well, the guy who had it before me fogged the motor as well as the cylinders (oilin the cylinders). Needless to say, things were pretty messy. The Fitch's were not dropped in until about 2 weeks ago so they really couldn't do much. There was no gum or dirt in the jets that my guy could spot .

FYI....All he said to do for summarizing these motors was FULL tank of fuel, some Stabil and drain the float bowls which he showed me how.

Other than that, he did say don't start it at all until you absolutely have to and these motors/carbs will clean themselves out under load.

even tho you use stable. Gas still gets old and it can lose its volitility.
Siphon it out, put that gas in yer truck and put fresh in your sled :D
I got tired of the sled running not quite right first ride of the season on lasts seasons gas. Now I always start out fresh.

Was just wondering as I have never had a problem (knocking on wood) with any of my stuff starting up. There must have been something wrong though or they would of ran right from the start.

Make sure the carb boots are securely on the carb flanges.

Thanks guys...

Turk....Funny you say this because I just put the airbox back on again....I guess I will need to re-check it. Dano, I have never had a carb problem either...knock on wood.

I am going out to check the airbox & plugs

If not these 2...then probably carbs....(hope not)

It's carbs. The jets on this thing are so small...they could get plugged in a Class 10,000 cleanroom.

Mine were already plugged with ZERO miles and starting it for the second time two weeks after taking delivery...

idle

It's the jets. Before paying the dealer, take the airbox off, and spray carb cleaner in carb with engine off, then start it. It worked on mine. You will have to hold slide open when you spray.
