just talked to bluedog, he said that he talked to some guys that rode from ironwood to hancock-trails were excellent. not sure if that was before the melt down. if nobody plans on staying, or doenst know for sure, i'll back out of my reservations for this weekend. it sounds like tork, bluedog headin upto hancock, and impala headin to munising, not sure if any other members lookin to head upto presque isle...or it seems to me that they arent checkin the forum very often. let me know...pm me if ur goin

I'm still planning on heading to Skyview Sat. morn. Looks like I may have to trailer up from Flambeau though. Rail road grade is probably toast in many sections. I know there were already some really bad spots last Sat. Let's hope that clipper lays down some decent snow Thursday night.

This afternoon i talked to a friend who lives in St. Germain and runs one of the local motels. they're grooming again there, and the conditions in the woods are very good. in and around towns is fair at best, but there is snow predicted every day thru early next week. Plus the winds have been blowing snow around which is putting more snow ont he trails for the groomers to work with. He checked quite a few trails vis car, and said they looked pretty good. And this is from a guy who's originally from southern WI (like me) and will ride in 3-4" of snow.
Here's a cut and paste of Adam's report on PI conditions: March 8th: Very cold here today with some light snow last night but only a dusting to an inch. Some very light lake effect snows will fall the next few days but not adding up to much of anything. Our next chance of good snow moves in on Thursday with a clipper out of the north. Forecasters are not guessing on snow amounts for Thursday but 2-3 inches on top of what we picked up Sunday night and trails could be good again. I'll give trails today a "2" in Minocqua, a "5" in PI and a "7" to the north
A friend and myself are riding SOMEWHERE Fri-Sun...not Munising due to distance and the fact that the big SkiDoo ridein is there this weekend. We'll decide on THursday after checking conditions......maybe we'll run into you guys!..would like too!!!
FYI - careful of the trail heading north into MI outta PI (tr 1?). if there's not much snow on it, there's lots of small rocks mixed in with the snow, and if you want to bend studs and listen to these rocks hitting your skis and carbides...have at it..I did durind mid-Feb and all I got outta it was about 30 bent studs

Is anyone hauling down to this ride from northern Minnesota? How many are going on this ride?

The sun came out Sat afternooon for a few hours and in a short time conditions went downhill. The sun came out again Sunday morning and by noon we were over 50F. By Sunday afternoon the trails were water, slush, and mud. Snow kicked in around 3am last night and temps started to drop. 3-4 inches of snow fell so far and it's still snowing. Lake effect snow warnings for most of the day and into tonight. I'm guessing we will pick up 2-3 more today here in PI and more to the north. Temps will be on the cool side for the rest of the week with more snow in the forecast. Adam .
