I just purshased a 05 rs rage. Having a problem with the low coolant light coming on and when it does the engine sputters and dies.
Temp was about 28 last night.
Chokes it and fire it right up..
Orange "low coolant" light on for a minute or 2 while it warmed up then off.
After about 30 mins of riding I started getting more comfortable and riding a little harder the "low coolant light" flickered on.
Sleds are very new to me, I thought it was the temp warning light drive over some snow on the edge or the trail taking it easy for a few minutes. Back on the trail through some twisties and bumps and the "low coolant" light flickered on and the machine lost power, and I shut it off. Slight backfire once or twice also
This happened a few more times, I thought it was getting hot but if the manual is right its low coolant.
Coolant is halfway up the reservoir at the cold mark. Put the rear of the sled on an incline started to remove bleeder but it seemed full also.
Went ahead and replaced the spark plugs, they looked old, but even.
Snowmobiles are new to me but I have lots of experience with a variety of motors.
What should I check next

Sounds like there is either a short somewhere or an open circuit(caused by weak connection) given that it happens when you hit bumps. I would start by checking the 'finger' connectors that are routed along the harness in multiple places. Pull them out and clean them.I just purshased a 05 rs rage. Black is ground. Blue/Green and Black White go to temp sensor so start with those I guess. make sure battery connections are tight also.

I started reading the "tors" thread below I need to go ride it and make sure it's not that, backing off the throttle after some spirited riding is when it seems like it happened. It was described to a t or what I was experiencing. Is there both a temp sensor and a low coolant sensor on the rage, I only see the one mounted on the t-stat so far.
Thanks for the help

It could be that, yes. These models still have the throttle switch right where the cable hooks to the carb. Replace that switch or take it apart and clean the contacts. Unfortunately it rained all day, no snow for at least the next couple days. Can't wait to test it out.

Didn't get a chance to ride, but I did get it to repeat its symptom in the light. It turned out to be the warning light not low coolant light and 84 flashed on the gauge cluster. Now I need to figure out how to bypass it to confirm....I haven't read the entire "tors" thread but a quick look under the handlebar pads didn't have a white wire on a circle connector .
