Could be your exhaust donuts are leaking or maybe yours tors is kicking in then out.

This would caouse the carbs to load up ? it takes several second to settle down before I can get back into the throttle- sled runs great going down the trail 20-100pmh

Easy test, With gloves on totally block your muffler, If your engine sputters and dies or almost dies then your exhaust donuts are ok, if not then you can hear the leak and will have to replace. You may have got some bad gas, since you said last week it ran just fine?

Have you changed it or done work in that area? Unlikely unless its been disturbed.

While in the UP I put a can of carb cleaner in it and ran premium fuel- we put on around 450 miles in 3 days.... my local Yamaha guy is stumped as well - I ran on the stand last night and the backfire is there when I let off the throtle after reving engine. I will block the exhaust off tonight to see the results- machine idles great has great throttle response just backfires after im in in a bit...

What type of exhaust do you have? You might already know this. It is setup to run on regular fuel, Premium does nothing for it.

After a WOT run or a long run mine does the same thing, I have custom under tunnel exhaust though. Its some what normal on a carb motor, your flowing a high rate of fuel then closing the throttle, All of the fuel doesnt get a chance to burn off so it does in the exhaust. I would still check your exhaust donuts. What I am mentioning above is not a true backfire, i.e loud bang, more of a low burble.

Mine is a loud bang...if I dont wait and get right on the throttle it will flood it even more- I have to let it settle for a few second b4 getting back into it- I own 2 of the same exact sled built 2 months apart- nothing like that on the other one.

the more this is discussed, it sounds more like carbs or even the slides. have you cleaned them lately? it doesnt take much and they need cleaned. and what about the plugs, you cannot start these without letting them get hot before shutting them back down. You ran some carb cleaner thru it, maybe broke something loose and plugged jet, thats my bet.

Bypass the tors so you can rule it out.
