i don't believe this is specifically a vector issue so i hope i don't tick anyone off for posting it under 'general.' i'm looking for any help/suggestions here!

this problem started last year early in the season, but seemed to go away. well, it's back again this year. if i ride steady at 80-90mph+ for more than 1/2 mile the sled will bog down and shut off. i need to choke it to restart. my first instinct is to clean the carbs, but i'm not sure that will fix it since it runs fine at the other speeds all the time. it does run up to 100, and as long as i don't hold it there it doesn't act up...just has problems with prolonged periods of time when it acts like it's not getting fuel.

any ideas guys?

thanks!
Jim

I would get it to do the same thing and shut down right away and check the plugs. Sounds like you are lean and borderline burn down.

it's running out of fuel. not that experienced with sleds but best guess that's what's happening. that sled should have two vacuum operated diaphragm fuel pumps with two separate suction and discharge circuits. could be many things. restrictions just about anywhere in the lines, faulty fuel pump(s) or vacuum circuit, dirty needle and seats. do these have socks on the tank pickups? i assume they do if so they could be dirty. you don't want to keep running it that way and certainly don't want to run it up to speed until it sucks the bowls dry you can damage the engine. if it's running fine at lower speeds and short duration high speeds that pretty much tells you the carbs are working correctly, it's a fuel supply problem. on a high volume fuel system (race car) a plugged/restricted tank vent can cause the same problem but i doubt it would happen on a sled.

Check the vent tube for kinks... I had a cycle that did the same thing and the vent tube/gas cap vent hole was mostly plugged.. Cleaned it and problems solved. MM.

Yep, spiders and insects like to build homes, lay eggs, etc. in vent hoses. What I would also check is the carb floatbowl vent hoses, make sure they aren't plugged or pinched.
