Captain_Toyota said:Thats funny. They bring up the weight issue but yet Yamaha's Apex is lighter than the Mach Z. That says a lot for Yamaha when their 1000cc 4-cylinder 4-stroke is lighter than Doo's 1000cc twin-cylinder 2-stroke. So much for 2-strokes and twins being lighter, eh?hondo said:The only thing they could come up with is the old weight issue, and people shouldn’t place so much emphasis on a media review.![]()

This is key. Boy would I love to have PICTURES of the 2 sleds on digital scales. Yamaha threw some magnesium and titanium into them and they are lighter. Haha, but next year I really dont want to waste my time with uninformed people. I think Yamaha has those pictures, MrSled needs to get them

Rotax! said:Who said it was lighter, I thought the Apex was within a couple of lbs of the Mach Z, meaning being heavier.
I should have qualified it better, with all fluids and full tanks of gas Apex is lighter, Yamaha weighed them.

If Yamaha did the weigh in, it does not hold much weight. (no pun intended) But, If someone like Snotech or SuperTrak did the weight in, then it is much more believeable.

Hondo,
During our 06 presentation Yamaha was quick to point out "with full tanks of fuel"
So my take on the whole thing is Apex has 10 gallons of fuel and the MZ has around 12. I am not all that knowledgeable of Doo product.
You need to subtract 12 lbs, provided I read your post right and that the Doo does carry more fuel, which it would need to more closely match the Apex refueling range.
[EDIT] gas wt is 6.25 lbs at 72 degrees. At the temps we sled in I think it is over 7lbs. Jet fuel at cruise altitude is suppose to be over 7lbs because it too gets more dense in cold temps.

Got my Snow Week magazine today and it has the official results from the shoot out on December 10th in Woodgate, NY.
Stock Weights
Yamaha RS Vector.....615 lbs
Skidoo MXZ 600 HO (included electric start).....560 lbs
Polaris 600 XC SP.....541 lbs
Arctic Cat F6.....524 lbs
Yamaha RX-1.....630 lbs
Ski Doo Mach Z (included electric start).....625 lbs
Polaris 900 Fusion.....599 lbs
Arctic Cat ZR 900.....560 lbs
All machines were weighed with 5 gallons of fuel, oil reservoirs full, equipped with trail carbides, and studded equally.
Tork,
Read Reference a. Direct weights from the article.
Ref b. I am using dry weight's straight off Yamaha's web page. Pull up the web page.
Yamaha's "dry weight" specifications, and then adding Reference c. "basic" fluid weight calculation. 10 gals fuel (80 lbs) and 5 lbs for oil, chain, and brake = 85 lbs.
Apples to Apples this is what I come up with. If thats what an Apex or ATTAK weighs with 10 gallons of fuel so be it. That is the weight.
A presenter from Yamaha can claim: "well you know we carry less fuel therefore gas tank amount vis-a-vie, and therefore, pound for pound we are lighter" and spin it that way; if everyone is comfortable with that then go with it. With all due respect: Now how confusing is that!
I am going with a straight apples to apples comparison.
Like I said this is not rocket science. I think a basic reference point is what's important here.
I guess I should have opened my other post with my "Dragnet" hat on and do my Officer Joe Friday impression: "Just the facts Mamm, Just the facts "!![Div20 ;)! ;)!](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/div20.gif)

Hondo,
The only reason I bring it up is because Yamaha was very careful to say
"with full tanks of fuel, Apex is lighter than MZ and Fusion" They must have some reason for carefully making their point THAT WAY.
I do understand the point you are making, so not to worry
![All Coholic :drink: :drink:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/all_coholic.gif)
The fact that the 4 strokes require less fuel because they are efficient is a factor that has at least 2 benifits in real life.

The Mach Z has a 10.6 gallon gas tank. Doo has the Mach Z-X at 529lbs dry without electric start.
