I just picked up a 2006 rs venture with truly only 47 miles on it... I know where it came from so I know it's acuarate. So what needs to be done with such a machine? It certainly has not been broken in. So what should I be looking for, for maintenance issues before the snow flies? Is there any must do mods? If I add a set of marginal snow wheels should they go on the front or out back? My other 2 sleds are 2000 vmax and a phazer so I have no experience with this new technology.. Any info would be great!

aaahhhh, I can't wait to see some of the feedback on this thread....I myself just bought an 06' venture with only 380 true miles, so I am hoping to pick up some hints from some of your replies.

PS, Welcome, from one Newbie to another.... :exc:

So far I have dumped what looks to be new oil out of her and also drained the 50/ 50 mix of stable/gas :- ) purchased a new battery and she seams to run great!

I think the only other thing I would do is change the chain case lube, adjust the chain, and repack the two clutch side jackshaft bearings. I clean and repack my jackshaft bearings every year as it is pretty quick and easy to do. G.B.

With 47 miles on it I would not bother with the bearings but thats me. Change the oil and filter and break it in like brand new. Myself I break them in the way I am going to ride them so I dont really take it easy on them. Keep in mind the sled is brand new with warranty when I do that and your warranty is over so I would break it in by the book to be on the safe side and change your oil again at the 800 to 1000 miles point. Go to your nearest dealer and ask them about the timing chain update and if that sled needs it done.

Was the timing chain a recall or a warranty item??? I know the Warranty part is long gone in my case.

On some 3 cylinders up to certain years which I am not sure the years they fixed it but I think it was 2007. The timing chain was updated or gears not sure again, sorry.

If all goes well lets hope we can all add 1000 miles to our underutilized new/old sleds :exc:

If timing chain tensioner was replaced with the updated one it will have a blue dot on it. The old style tensioners will have an orange dot on them.

Is it possible to see this dot without taking a lot of the snowmobile apart? I just brought home a 2007 RS Rage with 400 ish miles and the owner had not even heard of this timing chain tensioner issue (and he bought it new in 2007).
