Matt are you talking about the floats, is that what you have? All shocks when new are very tight.
On the floats they have a very tight seal to keep the air in. This shock requires more force to get them moving than any other shock. On motorcycle forks this phenominon is called stiction. Logic tells me that the floats on very minor bumbs they might not initially react as fast. I have very little real world riding on the floats, it is just an educated guess

sxmatt first off I never compared my mountain bike shock to the snowmobile floats I stated that I have them on my mountain bike and they work great period.Second two reasons why the floats might have been to stiff 1 to much air 2 the static sag has to be setup both front and rear on all suspensions rider included.Tork said it pretty good they don't comply very good with small bumps but man are they plush on the big ones at least on my mountain bike,nothing that can't be adjusted with some internal valving work.

I went to the Apex Accessory site and they labeled the Ohlins Shock as the GYT-R with the trademark sign and Ohlins. Where as the unknown brand is GYTR. Do we have a bait and switch situation here?

Its not bait and switch, since all the GT pictures from the beginning have shown a dark grey front spring/shock and the ohlins are yellow. They just recently ADDED the ohlins to the gytr brand, previously they were just "ohlins".

GYT is a label Yamaha has used for many things even pipes on the 2 strokes. Used so much it is generic
Genuine Yamaha 3rd letter of the acronim is Technology I think
