Hi guys, so I have a 2007 Apex mtx I bought with no reverse. I am wanting to add reverse to it. So I can get the whole complete chaincase with reverse for around $340. Here is the problem, the ones that I am looking at are for gt/ ltx models so the gear ratio's will be off. So my question is can I use my stock top gear on the new chaincase with reverse? Also, can some one please tell me the difference between a 38t gear, vs the stock 40t gear the apex mtx comes with? I assume the 38t bottom gear is going to be better for top end, but is will it be a huge difference over the stock 40t? Thanks.

A change of one tooth difference on the top gear is almost equal to two teeth on the bottom gear, ratio wise. If you end up with a bottom 38 instead of a 40, drop one tooth on top and your ratio should be very close to what it was. If you look in the TY tech pages it lays out all of the gear combos, required chain lengths, and ratios.

Thank you this is the info I needed!! So I am looking at a complete 2006 apex gt chaincase, will that bolt right up no problem/ work fine on my 2007 apex mtx? I am wanting to buy that, swap it over, use my stock top gear on my mtx on the new/ used chaincase. And get by with the 38t for this year, then go to the 40 maybe this summer. Would that work ok for the rest of the winter? I understand it will be better suited for top end/ trail riding due to the 38 vs 40t gear.A change of one tooth difference on the top gear is almost equal to two teeth on the bottom gear, ratio wise. If you end up with a bottom 38 instead of a 40, drop one tooth on top and your ratio should be very close to what it was. It will work out just fine. The stock clutching may be a little Heavy for the extra ratio in the chain case, but time/testing will reveal which direction you need to go with it.

One more quick question. Can I use the stock 68L chain on the 20t top gear with the 38t bottom gear? Or would I have to use the chain that comes with the reverse chaincase? It will work out just fine. The stock clutching may be a little Heavy for the extra ratio in the chain case, but time/testing will reveal which direction you need to go with it.
