Looks like track is rubbing it. Also you can see spring paint all rubbed off on the inside part of the spring. Looks like it is hitting body of shock. I also have oil on the outside of shock body but nothing on shaft. Sled has only 1000 miles. Is this common?

Yes. All are common other than shock hitting spring.

Your seal may be going in your shock and need a rebuild.

Ulmer Racing sells a $25 "track rub eliminator kit" for the top of the shock. It consists of two bearings and a longer bolt to keep your track from rubbing on the top mounting area of the shock.

Here is a link to Ulmer's catalog. Click on accessories and then click on Apex & Attak.

Just finished studding mine, '09 Apex LTX GT, and paid attention to the shock area. Not sure if its on new machines only but there is a curved 'slider' on either side of shock mounting eye. Track will not touch shock as it rides on these sliders.

That must be a new improvement from Yamaha. On my '07 Apex GT the top shock mounting "eye" got pretty worn down from my center stud heads.

Can the plastic sliders be installed on my '07 Apex GT? I was thinking about buying Ulmer's track rub eliminator kit but I would rather have plastic rubbing on my stud heads instead of the metal bearings in Ulmer's kit.

Does anybody have a p/n and price for the plastic sliders on the 136" shock mount?

The sliders are almost $40 per set but they are specially made to be bolted to the brackets on the rear arm of the Attak / LTX models. You would have to fab up some brackets and weld them to your rear arm to get them to work.

Thanks, I guess that I will be ordering Ulmer's kit.
