Hi guys. Currently I am driving my 08 vector. But want to get an apex mtx, for off trail riding only, and keep using my vector for trail riding. So there is a 2007 all stock apex mtx for sale near me, with 2,500 miles on it. The problem is, no reverse on it. What are the part numbers for the parts I would need to have reverse? Or do you just buy the a used chaincase on E-bay from an attack/ vector that has reverse? I assume if I buy a whole used chaincase, it does not matter what year/ if it is from a attack/ vector, as aren't they all the same? Like would this work on a 2007 apex mtx https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Ape...=item1edf029037:g:bXQAAOSwkp1a2asS:rk:7:pf:0? We know how to work on the chaincase. From what I hear you need reverse on these sleds, plus I would want it anyways.

If I do buy this sled, I would not want to buy the reverse kit from Yamaha dealer as it would be over $600!! So if you have any input on this please share!!

The reverse chaincase from a 2006 - 2008 Apex should fit the bill. Buying a complete chaincase off ebay or BOP would be the easiest solution
Yup, that is what I thought. So the 06-10 apex chaincase should work then? Correct me if I am wrong here, but aren't the 2008 vectors and newer the same chaincase as the 06 and newer apex? Like does it matter if it is a vector, or apex chaincase?

Yamaha updated the Apex chaincase a couple times from 2006 to 2008 but they only improved the case itself...in 2009 Yamaha did a complete update on the the chaincase and the drive shaft that remained unchanged right through the 2011 and up Apexs.
If you choose a newer style reverse chaincase you will need the driveshaft as well.
It shouldn't matter if its a Vector or Apex case as long as you use the compatible driveshaft.

Thanks for the info. This is exactly what I was looking for!! So I take it, it is not to hard to mount the reverse lever on one of these that has no reverse, stock. Like is there drilling, or do they all ready have everything set up on the frame so the lever is easy to mount? Thanks again!!

Make sure you get as many of the parts off the donor sled as possible.
I recently purchased a complete reverse chaincase ,that came off of a 2011 Apex, to update a 2008 SC Mountain Apex to the more robust newer Apex chaincase and driveshaft. The one I picked up came with the reverse lever, linkage and everything else I needed.
Because you have a mountain Apex it probably has a 3" pitch track so you probably want to stick with your original driveshaft and drivers , look for the earlier chaincase setup to keep costs lower, make sure it comes with the lever, linkage , cover ect

Yep sounds good. So the chaincases I was looking at also come with all the gears included, along with the reverse linkages, levers, both chaincase covers, and every thing else in side. The problem is with that, is it is a apex mountain so the gearing is a lot different from a attack/ short track apex you can not use the gears from the new/ used chaincase that I bought for it. I would need to buy a new bottom gear (with the reverse gear on it right), and I could use the stock old top gear from the old chaincase in the apex mtx, and just put it in the new reverse chaincase right? That way the gearing will be the same, if I buy the same bottem gear, but just with the reverse gear.

Contact Travis at Barn of Parts, he will get you everything you need.

The bottom gear on the reverse chaincases is completely different from the bottom gear on a standard chaincase and is not interchangeable.
You would only need the bottom chain gear as the reverse gear works with different gear ratios, you also would need the big bearing that presses into the bottom gear unless you press your old one out or the used gear you get still has the bearing in it.

If you call Travis at BOP they can prob hook you up with the proper gears and chain for your application and will probably save you money and head aches in the long run

Yes, the right side plastic cover that the reverse lever will go into already has the cutout. I had to do the same back in 2003 when the RX-1 was released. After all the years of Yamaha blue snowmobiles, when Yamaha released the RX-1 in black, I just had to have it but of course, the black 03 RX-1's did not come with reverse. Back then, there was no other option other than to purchase Yamaha's reverse kit so I went that route. As sideshowBob stated, the bottom reverse gear is totally different between reverse models and non-reverse models so you would need to purchase a replace reverse gear with the same ratio as what you are currently running. Your top gear and chain should cross over so no worries there. Good luck with installation as it's not really that difficult. I was going to have the dealer install it but then when Yamaha stated they could not cover their OEM reverse kit installed by their certified dealer under my Y.E.S warranty, I opted to do it myself and the dealer even provide me with the documentation to install the kit which I may still have and can provide to you.

That is good to hear!!! Like I said I have yet to buy this Apex mtx yet. I was asking this question as the sled I am looking at does not have reverse, so maybe the guy will take some $$$ off of it due to that. Either way thanks for the input, and if you do have that documentation feel free to post it up, as if I buy this sled, I will be asking more questions as I go on. Thanks again guys!!
