I have a 2007 Phazer FX that was darting bad last season. Prior to the season starting I performed the Bergstrom Shim Install idea that I got from the Totally Yamaha site. I installed Dooley 4inch carbides and they are riding much more evenly on the trail. Last year the only part on the carbide that wore out was the front section. As a result now they grab ice and road surfaces and dig right in and turn the sled quickly even at low speeds. Should I wait until they wear down a bit or switch to single 4 inch carbides? The sled is not studded. I am thinking that the dooley 4' carbides are to much for the sled. Am I on the right track. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm lost. Last season it darted. Before this season started you did a Bergstrom shim trick , on dooleys? Now they are running evenly and fine. So what is the problem?
Or is the "dig right in" the problem?
4" Doolies are a pretty small carbide. Regular single carbides usually turn better/sharper.
I'm very surprised it steers decent with only 4". Maybe it's the Bergstrom shim set-up? I had 8" dooleys on mine and couldn't get it to steer, but it darted less.
Interesting.

It is the "dig right in" that seems to be the problem. Snow is still pretty sparse and when I hit a gravel or paved road the sled really grabs and turns very quick. Seems very unstable.

loosen the limiter strap. you'll have less tension on the skiis.

That is to be expected on pavement and gravel.

If the front of the wear rod is wearing more than back you need more shim under the spindle to keep front of ski up and more pressure on the back. That will also help darting.
Thanks Cannondale, you have been a big help to me and others on this website.
The carbides are wearing evenly now that I have shimmed the skis. What is the easiest way to take a little pressure off the skis or should I just wait until the carbides wear a bit. Which would have more grab 4" dooleys or 4"inch singles.
Thank you,
Mike

Loosen the limitar strap a hole at a time untill it is where you want it.

Speaking of doolies, Got my Snow Stud (not Snow Stuff) Double Down carbides today. Time will tell, and some snow to test on would be good too!

Yamahas is right.Limiter strap looser will take pressure off skiis. Also loosening up the shock springs to the point where in the air the spring is just barely tight will take pressure off and help tipiness to a point.4 in singles will have more bite than dualies because the snow in between each dualie decreases bite.
