Hey guys, new to the forum. I have 2 2007 Phazers that have the cold start/ cranking forever problem. Good batteries, clean fuel, new plugs etc. Is there anywhere I can buy the decompression springs mentioned in a previous forum? I’ve contacted my dealer and am unable to buy the cold start ECU that was once offered. I have 2 2009’s that start perfectly so I know something has been changed. Thanks in advance.

It's not just the decomp springs. it's mostly the ECU that's responsible for the delayed start and cold starting problems. The decomp springs you could probably get from Yamaha but the ECU, if still available, are very expensive. You'd be better off trying to find a used one.

Thanks, I definitely can’t get a new one and according to the dealer I talked to he claimed the ECU’s they installed back when those sleds were on warranty didn’t totally fix the problem. Also no luck finding a used one. I just I thought I’d ask all the experts if there was anything else I could do to improve them a little bit! It's not just the decomp springs. it's mostly the ECU that's responsible for the delayed start and cold starting problems. Check the ECU's you have. If the number ends in -10, it's the updated one. The original ended in -00. My son's '07 we only switched the ECU and it started better. Didn't change the decomp springs.

Here is an idea that might work but you want to see it endorsed by others with more knowledge/experience. As I understand it the old ECU did not allow a cranking engine to fire because the oil pressure was low. If you are really stuck you might install a switch that has the oil pressure sensor look good to go. I'm thinking leave the actual sensor alone and just set up a switch that is wired to its output that sends the voltage/signal that the ECU is looking for.
Anyway, the above may be just the product of too much coffee but we'll see what the gurus around here think. Good luck.

I will definitely look when I get back to the lake. The dealer ran the vin #s on both of the 07’s and they hadn’t had the update. Thanks for the information, I can at least now identify the newer updated ones from the original.Check the ECU's you have. If the number ends in -10, it's the updated one. The original ended in -00. Thanks I’ll give it some thought, I have some good information on the ECUs now so I may try and locate some used ones. Here is an idea that might work but you want to see it endorsed by others with more knowledge/experience.
