Put on some miles today on the 2007 Phazer FX all ditch riding in crusty snow. Rode the first 25 miles completely box stock with stock skis, clutching, etc. The front end & rear end seem to work very well together. Both the front and the rear end setup exactly as it came from the factory. It did bottom out once or twice, but adding the anti-bottoming stoppers will help eliminate that. I bolted on the Slydog trail skis with 4" carbides & the ski savers. This got rid of all the darting and dropping through the crusty snow that made the sled unpredictable and scary at times with the stock skis! Set the ski alignment in between 1/8" toed-in to "0" or neutral. Then bolted in our Phazer clutch kit. The handwarmers worked great and suprisingly enough the FX windshield wasn't cold at all either. The 108/41 gearing definitely makes it quick down low but I believe I'll be trying the 20/41 GT gearing and see if we can pick up some top end. We have a 1 mile long road that you can run all out for 1/2-3/4 mile on which had ice underneath with 1-2" of hard crusty snow on top and I saw 98 on the dream meter @ 12,150 RPM with low miles on the sled. This sled is just a blast in the rough ditches! Now I want the Phazer weight with the Apex HP!!

Sounds good, let us know what you find out about the gearing.
And, I really think the secondary should be changed copletely to make it even faster.

Can you use a stock Apex/RX secondary? Because I think this would be a great investment when running boost/Nos... VERY easy to tune when you get to the lake and want to run nitrous....

I've got the GT gearing which I think will have more top end. How come I'm only getting 91-93 at 11750 or so top speed on my broke in machine and your getting 98 on lower gearing? Is it the clutch kit? If so I'd be interested in knowing how it will work with GT gearing, and I would probably buy a kit to get another 10mph at the top end.

Sorry guys, I rode the FX & RTX the same day. Just got my typing mixed up.

Simonzsayz, top speed is all dependent on conditions. I rode another 50 miles today and in the same stretch could get 95-96 mph where yesterday I could run 97-98. The clutch kit may add 1 mph, but it's not going to be a huge gain on top end, it's in the low to midrange where it shines.

Thanks for the info. I'm REALY happy with the bottom through 80mph and love the engine breaking and midrange power. I just thought a little more top end would help when I ride with some hellion friends I have.

Good to hear Srxspec. I was wondering also about gearing my FX to a 20 and putting in your clutch kit to help compensate for what I might lose on the bottom end with a taller gear. If you do it let us know if it works with great results I will do it.

I have a phazer gt and installed Ulmers clutch kit, great improvement in lower end. Originally I was going to put fx gearing in to get a better lower end but now I'm glad I didn't. I have run this sled in hard packed and in 10 inches of wet snow. Only question I have is originally I was running about 11,700 rpm and now have dropped to about 11,300. Should I change something? I also added 198 bergstrom trail grabbers to the track.

I was just wondering if anyone is testing the gearing and clutch kits with bigger tracks? I'm running an 1.5" intense on my FX, but haven't had time to really start doing much with it other then ride it. I was having trouble pulling rpm's in deep snow, but I pu 3 shims behind the primary spring and that seemed to help. Any info is appreciated.

We have been testing only with stock 1" Ripsaw which is standard on the FX. Next we will add 72 studs to the track and do some more testing.

Also it seems that the little emblem also fell off the front of the sled that others have reported losing also.

SRXspec,
have you ever ridden a modern 440 race sled? If so, how does a clutched FX compare in 0-40 MPH acceleration? How does the suspension compare set to its stiffest? Thanks! Frank R.
