I just purchased a used 2008 Yamaha Apex LTX and looking for what kind of general maintanence needs to be done to it to get it ready for the sledding season, besides an oil change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought an 07 Attak and here is what I did to mind this past month.

1.Changed oil and filter. I put Yamalube 0w30 in it with a yamaha filter.
2.Drained coolant, added new coolant and don't forget to let the air out after you fill it back up in the back heat exchanger
3. Changed Gear Oil.
4. Took Stock plugs out put in new CR10EK's.
5. Added Skid Plate.
6. Greased all suspension joints.

I think thats it. I never had a 4 stroke sled or done any maintance myself. I just had a real desire to figured out how these sleds work and run so I did it all myself. I was a little slow going, but between reading post on here and the manual which can be downloaded off the website only. Good luck and just take your time and do it one day at a time. You got 60 days before the trails open!

Idler and rear axle BEARINGS to check, Hyfax, all suspension bushings, exhaust donuts, change your chaincase oil, check coolant level, spark plugs, primary & secondary bushings, ramps, rollers, buttons in secondary check for wear and clean sheaves with green Scotch pad and SPRAY NINE/SIMPLE GREEN or DETERGENT type soap and rinse with HOT! water and let dry...check all front end "A" arm and spindle bushings and make sure to lube them on a regular base, they're prone to wear out fairly quick if you don't LUBE...I'm sure others will chime in.

1 other thing invest in Rock's www.yamaheater.com
'cuz handwarmer's S@CK big time...NO HEAT!!!

Its a great sled, I enjoy mine every mile I ride! :yam: 10.000kms so far and counting.

Hey... Thanks for the help... I am still fairly new to snowmobiling and this is my first 4-stroke sled. Looking forward to the first ride on it..

Looks like the guys have filled you in pretty good! IF you perfom oil, crank and gear lube change as well as grease all fittings, check the track, hyfax condition, you should be in good shape!

You guys have been great with all of this info, but one more question... any suggestion on what type of coolant i should use

First of all I diluted mine, factory mix is way to concentrated so I drained 1.5L and replaced with DISTILLED water and testing -40 which more than enough and have better cooling, to answer your question any type thats compatible with ALUMINUM either in PREMIX or CONCENTRATED, I always buy PRESTON brand "green" in colour...
