Just wondering what you guys would do if you were me? I do primarily trail riding and ditch banging but might be doing some mountain riding later this season.

I bought a 2008 Nytro RTX recently and had the chance to put 150 miles on it. I got stuck in deep snow on the side of the road twice and rolled it on its side once around a turn. This thing is very hard to ride in the twisties and sorta overall. Tippy and doesnt turn very well or easy. It does have dual running carbides on the stock skies and fox floats and the rubber on skies turned around. Just hard to ride and keep up with my buddies on their Skidoos.

I have the option to buy a 2010 Yamaha Nytro MTX 162' SE for a good price. Has 8k miles on it and fox floats all the way around.
Would this sled handle even worse on the trails and ditches than my 2008 nytro I already have? I know 2010 had many updates with geometry so thats why I ask?
Whats this 2010 MTX worth?

driving the 2008 I bought just wasnt all that enjoyable so thinking I might try something else like this MTX.

Thanks

I would get the 2010 MTX hands down if it is in good condition and has been taken care of. The 2008 RTX was the worst handling of the nytro family so was the 2008 MTX. The MTX was basically the same sled with a longer track. I know i own an 08 MTX. You can get them to work well just takes a lot of time and a bit of money setting up the suspension. People on here have got them handling pretty well. You really have to dial in the suspension to get it to work and a lot of people dont want to make the effort to work on them. You would be doing a lot to the 2008 RTX to get it to handle that come standard on the 2010 MTX. They changed the front geometry on the 2010 MTX lightened it up +40 lbs It came with FOX Floats standard. they were part of the weight loss program. It has a better apporach angle then the older nytros so it works better in deeper snow. THe OEM track still was not a very good track.

If you ride trails 80-90% of the time you can do things that will help a 162 live nicely on the trails. You can cut down the track put extra wheels and ice skratchers to help it thing live longer. It will never handle lile a comparable 2010 RTX after all they are different sleds set up with different purposes in mind. You will still need to tweak the suspension to get the 2010 MTX to handle better. One thing to keep in mind, if the 2010 is set up to boonedock it wont handle well on the trail. It is a gve and take thing. to make them handle on the trail you give up off trail performance and the opposite is true as well. 2010 MTX is a decent trail sled if it is set up for the trails. If you get it you may find you have more fun off trail where your buddies cant go on their trail sled.

I have a 2013 mtx 162 and in stock form it handled better and could be driven harder on the trail than an 08 Nytro rtx. Honestly I can drive my mtx on the trail as hard as my xtx. The tipped up rails on the 162 help with that.

I have added the hindle exhaust and skinz 39" a arms and the sled got even more fun on the trail. I do not have it setup for trail riding but I have a lot of trails to get to our backcountry spots. The rear skid also works well at soaking up the bumps.

You will have way more fun on the MTX than the rtx.

Get the MTX. Price wise I would think with 8000 miles it should be $7000 or less. It's not high miles for the motor but high miles for everything else and depends on how well it was maintained.

Few guys on here said a very good upgrade was switching the 08 spindles from left to right . Worth reading up on that and trying it as it had some good data included on the thread

Here is link to the thread

Has anyone tried this with good results? Would like to hear some opinions before replacing my spindles with SLP ones.

I have the jre and love them. Looked at the slp and something just didn't look right about them. But if the 08 spindle swap thing works for ya it's worth a try Atleast I would think. Worst case your buying spindles best case it works.

I stand by these words of wisdom.... "UNLESS YOU RIDE MOUNTAINS ALL THE TIME, there is NO REASON FOR A MTX or MOUNTAIN SLED". Just my opinion, nothing handles like a trail sled on trails. Nothing handles deep and steep like a Mountain sled, but they are not very interchangable. NO WAY IS AN MTX gonna stick with a shorty for trail riding, and vice versa in the mountains.

If you ride mountains once a year, RENT A MOUNTAIN SLED!
