ok i have a 08 mtx 153 and i have fox float 2 shocks from a 10 mtx 162. i already installed the front ski shocks perfectly. but the rear 162 skid fox floats shocks will not fit my 153 skid. so could i use both arms from the 2010 162 skid on my 2008 153 rails and mount the shocks? or is there a kit for this swap. or are the arms different from a 153-162 ?
between 08 and 10 Yamaha changed up the approach angle of the rear skid by shortening the front skid shock and may have even shortened the rear arms (not 100% sure on the arms) which in turn reduced the approach angle of the skid. The rear skid arms on an 08 are completely different then the arms on the 2010 skid becasue the 08 skid was designed around coil springs 2010 was the first year they went to the FOX float rear skid to save weight. I believe that the mounting location on the rails are in different locations. I have a 163 TS skid on my 08 and it mounts in the stock location and i am running different rails so the top mounting holes are the same its the rail mounting holes that are different. I believe if you just to bolt the 162 arms on your 153 you will bind the suspension somewhere it he travel and bend all kinds of stuff. your best bet would to find a 162 used track or new and extend it to a 162 and get the better suspension and better floation
bholmlate is right. 08/09 are totally different to the 2010+. In 08/09 they used a coupled (slider) rear arm, torsion springs and a shock. In 2010 they went to air shocks and an uncoupled design on the rear arm.
The front arm doesn't look the same either, so the fox float might fit but might get ruined too. If you have a look at the pics below,
- you can see the front arm on the 2010+ suspension is shorter and attached to the rail differently. Yami added a steel plate added between the 08/09 mounts and the wheel axle shaft, so clearly it's different.
- you can see the rear arm is totally different. I'm pretty sure the mounting points to the tunnel are the same, but not 100%. Your best bet is to use the arms of the '10 suspension and hunt a set of rails for a 2010+ Nytro. Worst case, rails and rear drop brackets.
