2008 Polaris lineup

Polaris's 08' line-up great to me in the Crossover and Mountain sled catagorys. This is an important segment to me and many others. Only the Nytro MTX caught my interest in the 08' Yamaha line. I'll look it over next Tuesday night and compare it with what the oter manufacturers brought to the 08' table. If there was an option for a 1.5" track on the MTX with maybe even a 144" it would be a winner in my book.

Funny how the Poo's always show these great dyno #'s but can't seem to get it to the ground. So much for the great Polaris clutches.
I remember odering my 02' Viper because of all the 135hp hype, and the mogal bashing suspension it was claimed to be sporting...making it the best sled Yamaha ever produced. This was the biggest dud that I ever fell for.......wait.... let me look back... I also bought into the 1994 V-Max 600 hype...... those old memories have me hesitating about jumping on the new Nytro MTX!
All the manufacturers hit a few homeruns and they also have their share of infield flies. The type of riding I like the most requires a sled to be able to get up on top of the snow, all the HP in the world is useless if the damn thing is trenching. If the chassis can get on top easily, then not as much HP is neccesary to get the job done. One thing for sure, is that every new season seems to bring us better and better equipment . I just can't wait until the 2028' are released...those will be awesome!!

Good post, Bodacious. I hope this sled is as good as advertised, too. I think it will be, for sure. But people have a right to remember the past.

First of all the HP hype number was 128HP, not 135HP, don't know where you got that one. Secondly I still own my 2002 Viper. Other than the too stiff shocks ,which Yamaha took care of for $185.00 for 4 new shocks installed. Plus they let me keep the originals and I sold them for $250.00 for the set, so I was money ahead. As far as performance mine is stock with HH's in the clutch and a 1.25" track, that's it and it flat out flys. I can't compain one bit. How does running dead even on a 22 mile lake with a brand new Mach Z sound? How about staying a length ahead of a ZR900? Seems crazy, but it's fact. I have no complaints about the performance of my Viper. If you doubt my story I have witnesses you can PM. :yam:

BTW, yes the 1994 VMAX600 was a dud. We had one. It was the clutch. Yamaha finally got it right in 1995(clutches) and has ever since. We had a 1995 and it was a screamer.

Polaris Clutching

** As far at Mtn riding goes: **

Whoever said Polaris clutching doesn't get the power to the ground should jump on a new SkiDoo TRA/Roller combo and experience a clutching system which really sucks.

For the longest time the winning combination was a P85 primary with an AC secondary.

I've got no problems with the Yamaha clutch setups once you get them dialed in but to say that Polaris doesn't get the power to the ground is really robbing the spotlight from the true stinkbomb Ski-Doo.

I sold my 07 800R it was so bad and I snowchecked an 800 Dragon for next year as my foggy day riding machine basically due to the clutching nightmare that is the TRA primary.

Of course I kept the T-Apex Mtn. I'm not crazy afterall...

The TRA is not an easy clutch to tune. It's like left handed theory. My opinion on the Poo's clutching is the Team Secondary. Most likely why they are getting poor top end with the Poo's. Your statement makes sense...P-85, yep good clutch (copied COMET) with a "Cat secondary". The reverse cam secondary is a great design. That's why I like the current Yamaha secondaries so well. I can make a spring twist change on the YVX secondary in less than 10 minutes. Try that with an enclosed helix secondary.(Polaris/Doo) It'll probably take you more than 10 minutes to find the snap ring after it hits the wall.

PS: As far as getting the power to the ground, I'm referring to their lake performance. The Poo's have been suffering top end wooas for several years now. Every one I have run or talked with complains about no top end. If you go to the brand X forums you read it all the time. New Dragon, new IQ 600, new Fusion, XC800...etc. NO TOP END, please help!!

if you expect anyone to believe a wiper will run past a zr9 you need to quit sniffing glue, especially a stock viper. I have a 03 zr9, next winter I will show you what fast is if you want. lol I am about 100 miles south of you in iowa.

I glad that you like yours!!! Everyone is intitled to their own opion. As for me I glad that it's long gone! JMO too! As far as the 94' goes, power was not an issue because it really didn't make much..but then not many did back then, I was more disappointed with the ride and ergo's, it placed the rider way down in a hole and and the suspension pretty much sucked. Their advertisement campain was all about great ergo's. Looking back, my history has been buying the newest Yamaha Chassis riding it for two seasons, then buying another brand, then starting the whole cycle over again. My Attak all in all has been a pretty good overall package, not a great sled off-trail, but overall, not a bad unit.

polaris is a very finacially sound company, any of you that think otherwise are mistaken. Cat also is pretty healthy, they are debt free with many million in cash. I was a polaris guy, I hope they get there crap together, I think the dragons are a hell of a good sled if the motors perform and hold together.

What are you smoking? :ORC :ORC :ORC How many 2007 Polaris sleds do you see on the trail? Last year they were so bad off they didn't even do the spring tour, instead they just anounced them on the internet. Ever visit a Polaris dealer lately. How many sled do you see being sold. I went to one the other day and there were sleds in creates for as far as you could see. These were not 07, but 06's that didn't sell. They have had several layoffs. If you want more proof - go look at there quarterly reports and see quarter after quarter of where they performed poorer than the previous year. See, it takes selling sleds to keep you in business today, and unfortunately they aren't selling many because they lost a large share of there customer to other brands. Sure, there are some of the faithful left, but they are becoming fewer in numbers. As I predict, the sled division will be sold, or major restructured. Hopefully the first person out the door is Tiller, who got them to this position.

Well...I ain't overly worried about the company's health, and they have officially sold me on their product...and I'm not exactly a "Polaris faithful" since my last 3 sleds were Cat, Doo, and Yami in that order. So I might as well finish the cycle and get me a Poo...the '08 Dragon Switchback 700 has officially been ordered. So, for all you Yamaha cheerleaders: Attak for sale! :jump:

polaris is more than a sled company rx1er. Victory is profitable now and they sell a buttload of 4 wheelers, I believe 2nd behind honda. I will put it this way, they need to get there #*$&@ together in regards to sleds, but other than that division they are doing pretty dam good. All large companies have bad profits at some time, that is why they are diversified.

AMEN, I have a Polaris superstore right here where I live. I picked up a helmet there for relative a couple weeks ago. They told me they only sold two new Polaris sleds since January 1st. Yep, they are doing real well!!
