2008 RS Venture was working well on trail and stalled,as if looseing all electrical power.Starter would not turn over when tried to restart.Battery ok,headlight/gauge would work when commanded.
Jumped power to large wire going to starter, dead short. Why would then engine stall????Crank is ok,turns over easy at pulley.
Any ideas before we take the engine out.

Would check the starter itself, & the starter solenoid.

Engine is probably ok, sounds like the starter solenoid and/or key switch may have stuck in the "Crank" position and killed the starter.
(If the starter sticks "cranking" you cannot hear it, you get no indication, until the sled dies a few miles down the trail.)
Look closely at the wires to/from the solenoid, see if there is any signs of heating.

If this is the case, send me a PM, will send you a Starter Saver at no cost (just shipping) to help prevent this from happening again.

Let us know what you find.

Rock :-o

Starter stuck.Had to remove engine to replace.Starter solonoid had some corrosion, replaced.
Just finishing puting this back together, engine now cranks but no start.NO Spark. After cranking headlight come on for a second,no codes on display.
Any ideas

did you pull the plugs to see if there is no spark, check all connections and try a new set of plugs , it mit not be getting fuel check fuel line out

whats a starter saver?

Hi Blue Missile!

It is easier to send you to this thread than type it all again.
There is a bunch of info on the Starter Saver and how to get one free here:

Don't want to see this happen to anyone on here, it is very expensive to repair!

Hope this helps!

Newbie here with a 2006 Venture RS 2up. Sounds like a potential issue that can be averted fro short money. Is this thing easy to hook up?

Any no spark ideas?Checked all connections and fuses I can see.Tested switches/coils.

Most likely would be a connector that is not fully connected or in the wrong place.
Mainly because you just pulled the engine & had all of them apart.
If a number of things it checks are not correct, the ECU will shut-off the spark.

Is your ECU mounted & grounded?
Check all connectors by un-plugging them and plugging back in, this helps clean the contacts.
Make sure they are fully seated.
Especially the connectors into the ECU & to the Pick-up coil.
Check the resistance of the pick-up coil, post what you measure.
Check for +12v on the Red/White wire at the ignition coils.
Post all the info you gather. (Let us know what you find)

A possibility is the ECU itself, however, they are pretty tough.

Pickup checks at 197 ohms at 60F.Also checked with labscope, good wave form.I have 12v at coils, but the coils are not switching.
Checked ecu connections,good.
Your information is appreciated.

You are welcome!
Will help any way we can.

That's not so good, starting to point to the ECU.
See if you can temporarily swap an ECU from a like machine to test it.
