A friend of mine bought a 2011 apex 128". He is looking for a clutch kit but is on a very small budget. I was just wondering if there is anything that works as far as just changing secondary spring and spring wrap? Any suggestions would be great

I think my 2011 clutching is spot on...I don't think you could do anything to improve. Just my 2 cents. Is there something he wants to correct?

He is only running about 10,200 for rpm and it doesn't have much back shift. Wrap is 1 and 6 and all stock springs. Apex only has 600 miles

10,200 is correct for RPM I believe the spec is 10,100- 10,300 so is is right on the max rpm...The wrap is correct for the spec...mine back shifts as soon as i let off. Has he tried a different belt? Also mine seem to "feel" like it ran much stronger after 1000 miles on the machine....so with only 600 miles maybe its just getting broke in

Just making sure I do wrap correct, it is 1 in clutch and 6 in helix, then wind till holes in helix match with clutch stud. Correct? It just doesn't seem like much tension.

10500 to 10800 after 1,000 mi but not over 10800 or it will start pulling timing. Give it more mile's, it will get stronger!
Yes 1 on clutch and 6 on cam. Twist to next ramp.

What is bothering him about his current clutching?

Has anyone tried to wrap spring at 2 and 6? How did it work?

I did this a couple of weeks ago and find the sled more fun to ride, love the backshift. It brought my shift rpms up and top rpms up a bit. I was about 10200rpms before and after the extra 10 degree twist on the helix, I'm up over 10500 now.
Keep in mind that a new sled will pick up rpms over time.

I agree the clutching is pretty great stock on these units, but I swapped out the old helix and installed a roller clutch kit from Thunder Products. It is a little bit of work to install, and I did a few mods to it to make it work for me, but it totally changed the sled, smoother and harder shifting, backshifting is actually noticable now, and really easy to adjust spring tension once you have it set up close.

going to 80 with a bruce schraeder 51/43 from pioneer really wakes up the 11+ models
The factory helix actually measures more like a 48/40
