Yamaha has already said its 5% more peak power than the current apex and they have already said the EPS adds 18 lbs.
This puts HP around 156-157.
As for weight I think with everything they have added it is going to be 25-30 lbs more than the current machine. If just the EPS adds 18, the exhaust valve stuff will add 8-10 or so to the package.
One thing for sure is it isn't loosing any weight or it would be noted and promoted.

Per the Yanaha rep @ the Ottawa show, 20 % more in the mid-range, and 10 % more on top. Sounds good to me.

Ignorance on my part... These, I assume, are HP numbers from the crank?
Do the Ski-Doo and Yamaha systems communicate the HP to the snow close enough to each other that comparing crank HP makes sense?
Sorry for the dumb question - just trying to understand.
Thanks.

Why are some of you even comparing power numbers of a Yamaha and
Skidoo? They're different machines; one company going one direction and one another. Yamaha obviously doesn't care much about weight reduction either, but rather would concentrate on reliablity and quality as well as longevity during a short season. Skidoo cannot offer that....period!

Why compare, pretty simple. 800etec is skidoos big motor, apex machine is yamahas big motor. Both near same hp range #'s so know matter what on the snow they are constantly raced against eachother, and constantly compared to one another.
No different then the like what 30yr battle of camaro vs mustang on the pavement.
As far as quality and all that, yamaha is the best, obviously, but this thread is not about that, its about hp#'s.
HP doesn't mean anything if you don't hook it up, or when it goes poof and sits in the garage for a few weeks in the middle of riding season or in a few years when you can't get parts for it.
I spent about 2 miles drag racing this season and 2,000 miles trail riding as most people I know do. What difference does a few sled lengths in a drag race make. A little heavier sled is far more stable and compfortable to ride. Lighter sleds ride choppy.
As far as the weight... the exhaust and muffler has been re-designed , no springs on the SE, I think the XTX skid is lighter than a mono, and the delta box looks lightened up. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2011's are equal or even a little lighter with the additions.
The local dealer handles both brands and priced the 800 e-tech to me at about $1500 less than the Apex XTX. I stayed with the Yamaha because I put a lot of miles on my sleds and am not willing to chance a first year engine. I know from experience that big cc twins are hard on clutches as well. I don't want the head aches.
Just my .02$ worth

Nice post, iahacker. My point is, Yamaha could obviously boost this motor to destroy the competition, but has chosen not to. Instead they've focused on something that the riders pefer (over the isloated full throttle runs) and that is a proven sled that lasts season after season with very few hiccups.
The banter back and forth is getting really old in my book. Unfortunately, I responded and probably shouldn't have. From now on, I'll just read and laugh at the childishness. IMO.

I'm not sure why its being made a big deal, nor what banter back and forth people are talking about.
Question was asked why people were comparing hp #'s to 800etec, you got an anwser.
Also I dont understand why the need to explain why yamahas are far superior to the doo. We all know that, and was never questioned. The thread is about motor hp, not anything else. This is TOTALLYAMAHA we are on here because we own yamahas and feel they are the best already, so why the long explanation of something we already know and feel the same about?
Everyone wants to know from yamaha the real numbers. Skidoo just posted its real #'s last week so thats where the comparisons coming into play. Its not a big deal, so dont make it out to be one.
I felt a big difference of the 2011 power while riding then what my 06 delivers. It was always there. Pull was non stop at all speeds and rpm's, loved it!!
As soon as the next apexs lower some in price, even if i have to go used, there will be a new one in my trailer. I cant wait!
