2011 apex engine

Too many people put too much emphasis on PTO torque.

IT IS MEANINGLESS.

Torque is a function of power and speed, and is maximized by adjusting the drive ratio to run the engine at the speed where it makes the most power -- which happens to NOT be the same place as it makes the maximum torque.

Hi Mighty,

After playing with my calculator and an HP to torque converter, yes I get your point.

I guess what I was better trying to express was that at lower RPM's this motor should make about 10% more thrust, which is very nice.

It did feel a lot torqier when punching it.

2011 ride review

My wife and I had the pleasure of riding the new sleds for 2 days. The engine is smoother throughout the entire RPM range and tops out at 10300 RPM. I call it "sneaky fast" as the "seat of the pants" feel of acceleration is similar to the 2010 Apex. We did 2 rolling starts to compare acceleration--she was on the 2010 Apex 121" and myself on the 2011 128". I weigh 190 vs her 140. The 2011 easily walked away from the 2010 in both runs. I guestimated HP@165 and maybe 10 more ft/lbs of torque in the middle where it counts most. My wife LOVED the new sled and didn't want to go back to the 2010. I may now have 4 nice used Yamaha 4 strokes for sale.
