Just curious about when the Temperature light comes on. Will the sled shut down while your riding when it gets to a certain temperature, or does it only shut down while your idling?

On mine the light turns on at almost exactly 220 Degree F.
Have never had it shut-down while riding, so dont really know about that one.

My son-in-law and I were having overheating issues one night earlier this month........trails quick froze once the sun went down and we were almost 40 mi. from home.......idiot lights would come on and we still went a mile or two until we could find decent snow to pack the running boards with..........other than that, I can't say for sure.......that was on 06 and 07 Apexes........

The most I have ever seen on the coolant temp guage was 230F.
This was under the same conditions & same area Buddah mentioned.
Oil breakdown is the main reason to worry about the higher temps.
The lower the oil temp, the better, as a general rule.
At 250, most regular oils begin a faster breakdown.
Most synthetics at 300-350.
(I say faster, because all oil is slowly breaking down, but higher temps rapidly speed up the process.)
Without a separate oil cooler, your oil temp is probably running 230 or so regularly.
(Is almost always higher than coolant temp unless under very light loads.)
This is why I run synthetic, simply to have a wider safety margin, especially in low snow, frozen conditions.
Hope this helps!

I had to change the light bulb on my 06 this year it was on so much. No problems other than for sure new slides this season. I ran the sled home 100km's pretty much light on the whole way, low snow / after sun went down the snow changed to ice while we were 100km's from home. What could we do but ride and try to find some patches of loose snow. Light was on/off the whole way but mostly on and this happened to me twice this season. The sled never shut down or cut out it ran just like it would any other day but you could definitely smell slides and I do not recommend doing it like I did since you run the risk of burning slides right off. I knew my slides were good I have the DuPont and was regularly checking them with flashlight. I know skidoo's will go into a safety mode when over heated but my Yamaha's never have just a light.

I know on my 2004 Warrior when it gets too hot at idle it will shut down! Never shut down while running along with the light on though? I'm curious if this 2011 Apex will shut down at idle if it's running hot for a certain length of time? Don't know if either sled would shut down while running along though? Could be that Yamaha set them up to shut down only while idling?

like I said ran as if the light was not on idle or not. Had it idle for a while never shut down.
