2011 Apex SE vs. 2011 Apex XTX? comments reviews all welcom

I purchased the XTX because of my riding style and trail conditions. I hate studder bumps and kidney kickers. I've been riding with a 136-144 for 20 years and I won't go back . I love the way it bridges the small washboard crap and provides that extra bit of help when the trail ends. FOr me ,, the XTX with it's tipped up rails was right up my alley. Pushing in the turns should be about the same as the 128. It all depends on your riding style and how often you dive off the beaten path .

You can't go wrong with either one imo :)

Make a list and decide what is importan to you! E.G. more weight-xtx, straighter tracking in the bumps-xtx, more traction-xtx (you'll need it),
top speed..............close but i think xtx, better ride-xtx, tighter corners-SE, and so on.
My take is put a bitchen ski on the front and it set the boingers so it don't push...........XTX.
Longer tracks are in unless your riding tight trails........ and if thats the case then maybe not the right sled.
Good Luck!

I sure would like to see a comparison in turning radius' between the two models. If the XTX is 'designed' to corner 'like' a 121, then theoretically it should corner better than a 128, on hard pack at least.

Anyone out there rich enough to have bought both sleds? Or have the means to do such a comparison?

I spent time on both the 128 and 144 Apexes and my preference is definitely the 144. No difference in steering effort or manoeuvrability except the 144 feels like it bridges the bumps better and has a nice feel of weight transfer with the tipped up rails. The 128 goes well, but I'll take the 144 anyday. People that think a 144 is to much for twisty trail handling need to do a back to back comparison on the same trail. I would definitely put a set of good mountain skis on since the power steering should make up for any stiffness found on some more aggressive skis.

Dano, were you driving on gravenhurst trails, huntsville trails, collingwood fields, or north bay hiway ? and what driving style...speed limit, cruse or try and keep up

The 2011 Apex 128 was mid season last year day trip with Yamaha Canada with a few of us regular Joes to test ride a 2011 sled that we knew nothing about. At the time, Yamaha was tight lipped and didn't release any specs where it left for interesting trailside conversation. I think the whole intent was for us to not get caught up in any spec hype and just feel the sled for what it was. We swapped out a few times during day for all of us to have a few rides, which was real life mixed trail riding in the Barrie/Wasaga beach/Colingwood area.
Here was my quick clip that I got surprised into lol

Found the secret box in front where the predicted power steering box was located,

Second ride was an organized yamaha event in my area where they had the full 2011 Apex line mixed mith 2010s. We went out for about a 30 minute ride of a bit of lake and trail. I focussed on the 144 Apex as much as I could since I already had the seat time on the 128 about a month prior.

Bottom line I don't think anyone would be disappointed with either Apex. Having the 128 skid as the new 121 only make sense and worked great. The 144 is my preference and is more me, but the 128 has more speed potential for the radar fanatics since their are more speed track options in 128 form then the availability in 144 length.
If only I could of bought one last season as I needed a new sled to end last season as I had my Apex apart for high milage maintenance. I bought a new 2010 Nytro 144, which I set up nicely and love it as well. I do see a 144 Apex in the fleet in the near future. My current Apex RTX is stretched out to 136 with ZX-2 skid.

What I would like to know, did anyone drag race them to-gether to see which one was faster.... Which sled gets the power down better. 128 or the tipped 121" to a 144. Anyone know, which sled hooks up better on the lake and on the trail. Not concerned about off trail comparisons.

Spinnin ain't Winin> if your Hookin your Cookin>>>I would say 144 to 75+/-mph.with each rider weight the same.

no kidding, but Yamaha has never had a 128 and the 136, pretty much killed the 121 out of the hole... I'm just wondering if anyone really ever ran these sleds side by side to see if there was a significant difference between the two.

Supposedly Yamaha claims the 144 is faster than the 128 stock for stock no studs. I heard this from a reliable source within Yamaha'a workforce. Kind of reminds me of the Attak vs. the 121" Apex of the past. It seems because of the broad torque curve of the 4 stroke engines that they don't get bothered as much by adding longer tracks (to a point) and slinging more rotational weight like a 2 stroke does. More track on the ground also tends to have less track spin. I rode both the 128 and 144 demos last winter but never lined them up. The 128 hooked better IMHO than what I remember a 121 did with no studs. But I do remember the 144 really hooked up well. That looks like a fun sled!!

It makes sense to the for the 144", but I was just wondering due to the 128", that it make equal out to the tipped up rail at the 121" mark. So, it looks like the 144 tipped has better traction in all areas, but the 128" with different gearing and a long enough run would pull a little better on top end.
