2011 Handling

viper dave congrats on your new ride...did you ride it yet?

Ya, I just got mine home and ordered Excel wheels, a Rox riser and a tankbag. Gonna run my Powderhound 1st trip and if they work, I'll be ordering a new set. Gotta have the Attak for the DEEP stuff LOL!

60 miles of chisel plowed cornfields and ditches. Had to run it here before I go to Muni. It's setup with everything for a 160 lb rider. I go 300. Bottomed ONE time going between2 cornfields. Pretty happy with the ride. And it PULLS like the hounds of hell!!

SJ: No, 128 Se and 121 06 RTX. The RTX is a very good handling and fun to ride with 13mm bar and pilots plus only minor adjustments.

I have adjusted the transfer rod on both our 11' apexes. It has improved the push quite a bit and some of the inside ski lift. I have Ohlin's on the front and I feel I am very close to having the front end dialed in but i am still getting push and some sway to the front end. I have the 13mm sway bar already installed and stock 8 dull carbides. Snow conditions have been soft as well so really not good bite for the corners.

Weight of riders have been about 160lbs. I am really curious about pulling the limiter strap up one more hole from stock. I am looking at adjusting the spring preload on the Ohlin's as well like you guys are doing on the base shocks.

My question is how many threads should I start with for tightening? I have been told between 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch. That is about 2-4 threads. Please advise.

For those who WHINE about a $14,000 ( $12,600 is what I paid)sled needing adjustments get real. The 2006 Apex needed adjustments too. handlebar warmers, rear center idlers, rear tunnel protectors, exhuast donuts, skis darting. And everyone was complaining about how expensive the Apex was compared to the Viper's and everyone was going to keep theire $6500 Viper before they bought the Expensive 2006 Apex.

This website is about helping others tune a sled to their ride style and to help people with addressing issues they have and providing advice. Yamaha builds the sled to fit most riding styles (average). They also build into the sled "Tuneability" That is why there are adjustments to the shocks and suspension. if they made the sled fit me perfect it would not fit the next 9 riders out of 10 who bought it.

Do we get frustrated with things that are issues that we would like addressed sooner of course.

I pulled my strap up one hole, made a noticeable difference, flatter and and less pushing in corners, 6" studboy deuse bars.

You stated this perfect 82SRX!!!!!

I know the Nytro XTX front end is totally different but, isn't the rear skid the same (except maybe valving)? The nytro XTX guys/gals may have a few ideas for handling.
I have spent 2 seasons trying to get my Nytro XTX to rail and finally did. Some of this would apply to the front end of the Nytro so may not work for the Apex XTX. Here was my set-up that made my sled rail like an SRX. Hygear triple rate springs up front installed IAW their instructions, full ccw on compression and rebound in front, 10mm pre-load on the center shock, torsion springs one side medium and the other hard (hygear spacers installed), minimum weight transfer on the couplers, ski's 6.9 pilots with 6"shapers and 4" stockers on the outside. I weigh about 230 in gear.
I never thought I would ever be able to say this thing rails. Very very little ski lift and when it does happen it's predictable and controllable.
