Just seen the new cats on their site, nothing really new for engines, just some new graphics and a race ready package, The new graphics look better than last year but you cant cover old problems with new stickers.

Same old, same old... part of the reason why I like Yamaha is that they understand that many riders don't want the same color snowmobile as everyone else. Almost all these 2013 cats are either orange or green, and from what I remember, ALL the Ski-Doos for 2013 are yellow....

Where's the color variation!!?!

I remember back in 2003 polaris was ready to release a switchback that was mostly yellow but had to change it because of ski-doo.They could only use so much yellow.

Did we really need to start a new thread on this...there was one started the day before.

You guys are funny, I think you should read a bit more and learn what Cat has and plans to do to resolve the issues. The 2013's will be refined and from what I understand address the issues. Their even going to replace the defective parts on people who purchased 2012's.

As far as changing the stickers to cover up issues, you just described Yamaha's strategy to a T.

Other than the Reverse issue the new Cats are pretty damn good. I rode 480 miles with a 2012 turbo sno pro and proceeded to have my butt handed to me on a regular basis. I am 30 pounds lighter than him too.

In Eagle River he would see 108/109 on his speedo and I would only see 98. This was 91 octane.

I would kill him out of the hole and by 84- 88 mph he would walk on by. (once he hooked up) I spent some time on his and yes, I think mine def handled better but his was bone stock minus a tall windsheild with 1200 miles. My 2011 is modded (see below) with 3500 miles. His was a hell of a lot lighter too.

Just bc it's cat does not make it bad. After this week I certainly have a different opinion of them. It's a kick #*$&@ sled minus the no reverse which is insane for them not to address, but hey we have 300 mile slider issues and took years to fix the handwarmers and we had to pay for it. Cat is giving them a free year on the warranty. Must be nice...

Qualifier...
I have 2 yammi sleds (see sig) a Grizzly, and 90 and 250 Raptors.

I have done a lot of reading. Go to HCS, there is page's to read there of real problem's with no fix like clutching, Many are buying aftermarket clutches now. Cat told every one there fit and finish would be much better on the production unit's as well! What do you think they are going to say when they hope to sell some 13's? Yamaha has never built a sled with the number of problem's that the 12 Turbo Cat has. I suppose you think they are going to put a whole new tunnel in the 13's to fix the cheap flexing, cracking 12 version. Good luck!

radta7, You don't seriously think that reverse is there only problem do you? I don't know what condition's you were racing on but my 12 Apex was pulling 106 on hard pack when it had around 300 mi on it and the Apex's speedo's now are with in 1 to 2 mph of actual. Remember the Cat is a 1,100 TURBO at 12 lb boost in stock form. I'am not really impressed for an 1,100 with a power adder! There is something to be said for a sled in it's seventh year, it's turn key and ride!!

I absolutely LOVE my turbo, no issues other then the reverse, and that never failed, I just eliminated it and went with HYVO so I can use my stutter and 30+ PSI. I agree the Apex is a nice machine, 7 years refined, but after 7 years they still cant figure out hyfax??? Watched my buddy eat a set every trip. Ride a new Turbo before you pass judgement, there is a big world out there beyond Yamaha.

I think a closer comparison would be the 1100 to the Nytro or Vetor engine. Since the Apex spins upward of 11,000 and requires gear reduction it's at a mechanical advantage from the get go. Remember the Cat engine only spins at 8,000 rpm so even less than the Nytro let alone the the what 28% less than Apex. I think when you consider that the engine has the same output as the vector at less RPM and one less cylinder it's actually quite impressive.

Listen, nothing compares to the R1 engine in a snowmobile in terms of seat of the pants straight line smile. When trying to create a "total package" it's just not worth the extra cylinder/s and extra weight that come along with the high rev engine.

stopdrop glad to hear yours has been good to you, we all can agree winter is to short especially this year but I think it is safe to say the 12 Cat Turbo will set a new record for recall's beating out the 03 firecat. Highfax is a non issue with a Yamaha with either marginal snow wheel kit's or over sized wheel kit's, The Only ones with problem's with highfax are people that don't take the small step to help themselves. You proved my point though, 30 PSI to run with a Yamaha at 20! I was just starting to like what Cat had with the previous chasis, it may have been on the heavy side but it was solid and most liked the ride and handling it was capable of. I have been off my back yard and I haven't ridden or seen anything worth sacrificing Yamaha quality and dependability for, sorry!

No the Nytro should not be compared to the 1,100 Turbo infact the Apex should not be either. The Cat is an 1,100 with a power adder at 177hp IN STOCK FORM! it doesn't mater what RPM or number of cyl's, power is power and the Apex is measured at the PTO (aprox 8,500 RPM).
