2014 vs 2016 XTX

Yamaha has been covering the starter failures out of warranty. 16.5 has been changed to address this but do we really know even with them? Was a bad snow year last year and way more 14,15 and early 16's out there. This year we will know for sure. Some things a guy just has to take a chance on.

If I am going to take a chance on anything, I feel better knowing it will be a Yamaha! Thanks for the encouragement!

I think its time to give this thread a "happy ending!" The bottom line is that I bought the used 2014 XTX for myself, but when I saw how much my teenage grandson was in love with it, I thought.....what to heck.....and it very quickly became "his" sled. So I traded for a leftover 2016 to make it a pair. The last couple of months my truck has sat outside the garage because we have been working together on the sleds, doing some things to make them uniquely "ours". Last Saturday, we finally got the chance to see if I (we) had made the right decision on the XTX's. We unloaded our sleds in a snowstorm that was coming on top of 14-18" of snow from previous storms. We found a few miles of untouched backcountry roads that led to a good-sized open area with lots of snow and bumps and jumps to play on. We only had a couple of hours, and it went by so quickly that neither one of was anywhere near ready to head back to load up the trailer. I am way too old and out of shape to be doing anything but regular trail riding, but OMG, was that fun! My grandson and I have racked up a few thousand miles on the trails over the past three years, but when we got back in the truck we were two happy "kids" who just shared a great adventure. He kept telling me, "that was the best ride I have ever had, I love my sled!" Did I make the right choice; was it worth it, Oh Yeah, Heck Yeah!

That's a great post! Needed that to lighten up the day. Has to rank as best $ spent not because of sled but the time you two spent together. Well done!

Hi Wanna viper stumbled across this thread, thought I'd run some things by you !Looks like you have a 2016 Xtx Se , me too ! I bought it a couple of months back from owner that moved from Vermont to TEXAS ,it has 125 miles on it but No warranty ! I have been Checking things out in the garage , cleaned it , checked Track tension and alignment etc, etc, it looks like a late build since I called Yamaha dealer in CT they punched in Vin number and said it needs , 1 refresh for kickback then 2 a RECALL for rod problem ! Further research by dealer found out that only applied to TURBO's ! Sweated that out ! Been reading about skis ( I have tuner 3 ) and most reasonable change is to Cat Skis ! Read yesterday about rear skid front shock being for only 130 lbs ( I'm 235 No gear ) I had some small problems like No manual,No tool kit,No air pump , No L shaped bolt ( aftermarket ) kit for easy belt removal it also has a really nice ( aftermarket ) rack ,pro series from UP NORTH TECHNOLOGIES INC.) BUT the rack was designed to have smaller east and west brackets along with north and south brackets along with whatever type of bags and fastener system ! So again missing pcs ! My buddies had a Yamaha Bag that fits under back of seat from his 2014 so I just installed ! I had to install Dash Visor plug along with splitter etc !So Long and short of it is AM I GOING TO LIKE THIS SLED ( never rode it ) It is THE FIRST UNCOUPLED SLED I have owned ! Mostly ride trails in Vermont ! With ski problem and maybe spring problem and rod problem I'm beginning to Wonder !I didn't foresee all these LITTLE Problems which have been resolved BUT took time and monies, like tool kit, pump,Lbolt, manual, spare belt etc. I Know you have loved yours , I'm just not used to all this messing around ! I still got my trusty FST 2009 Switchback 750 Turbo in Excellent condition, not selling until I KNOW for sure that this XLT is going to suit me ! Sorry for the rant ANY feedback would be much appreciated, ob the way I'm 60 not 25 lol !

Quit reading here for at least 2-3weeks and go ride that sled! It’s awesome! Go have fun. Find snow even if passport is needed. Merry Christmas!
