Looking into the purchase of a new Yamaha Viper DX.
I ride trails only in northern Wisconsin and the U.P.
I am 5'11 and 215lbs.
I tend to be aggressive in the corners , I have always rode 120" track.
Tell me the tradeoffs between the two and which one is the better choice and why.

Just my 2 cents....I'm a 100% Trail Rider, and I spoke at length with my dealer abotu which of the 2 sleds to buy.
He said that the LTX-DX was the only machine for me.
Previously had 3 Apexes of various lengths.

IMHO go with the 136, better balance and better overall ride on rougher trails at the end of the day, I'm 6'2 210 and have Apex XTXLooking into the purchase of a new Yamaha Viper DX.

Ok so the LTX 136 will have 4" additional track on the ground and be 8" OAL longer than the RTX 129.
So maybe a little better ride but wont the 129 handle better thorough tight corners???
What lenght tracks do they run on the ovals like eagle river? Are they

Actually the difference on the snow works out to be 3.5". This is because the LTX uses a larger wheel on the rear axle. When you get down to it, the LTX only has 1 more lug of the track on the snow vs the 129". My bet is that if people did the Pepsi challenge between similar 129 and 137 models, it's unlikely one could tell the difference.Ok so the LTX 136 will have 4" additional track on the ground and be 8" OAL longer than the RTX 129.
Rear suspension is where the difference is and it can be felt easily. RTX will lift the front end at will if setup stock. LTX will not. This makes the LTX a winner in tight smooth twisty trails and a loser if in big whoops, jumping or anytime you need to hoist the front end. Off trail they are equal. RTX can be setup to plant the front end but it is a compromise since limiter strap will need to be shortened and that compromises center shock travel. Modded suspension changes everything but stock this is what I found.

So the 137 a cruiser sled and a rtx a racer sled.
If you mean SnoX or Xc racer then yes. Not that extreme though.

From my research Yamaha is the only brand listing the 137" track as a Trail sled while all other manufactures list the 137" track as a crossover unit.

Haven't ridden an rtx yet, but have been on numerous 128" procross cat chassis sleds. Honestly I'd go with whatever sled is the most appealing to you in the area of price, colors and features, the two different lengths are so minimal that I wouldn't let that dictate my decision.

Yamaha's model names are a bit confusing this year, as the short track is called a rtx dx. In the past years rtx always denoted rough trail bump sled. The rtx dx for 2015 is basically a short track trail sled, like a mxz adrenaline, or lxr in AC's pro cross chaises. The rtx se or le are the stiffer rough trail sleds.

I think the difference between the two will be very minimal and I myself most likely will not be able to tell the difference other than 8" more sled behind me. To me long tracks are for off trail riding.

Another thing I really notice with the viper compared to say a short track apex, tho the track on the viper is longer (mine is a 137) the steering effort is so much easier with the viper even with a longer track and the viper will turn much sharper than the short track apex. When riding you don't realize the length of the sled being an issue at all.

I got the LTX DX because I wanted a long distance cruiser that would keep the front planted better with the turbo. My buddy has the XTX with the 141 and even it handles well in the twisty stuff.
