I wish they had a big Ole dummy proof seal like the proaction sleds. Maybe the cat assemblers could get it right then.
I never put loctite on the bolts that held the cover on my proaction sleds...do you really think it is necessary here? these things are so tight from the factory(tight with loctite, not over torqued),that I had to use an impact driver to get out. first try with a socket bit got me a messed up screw head. somehow I got lucky and got it to come out with an impact driver.

Yes the Loctite is needed since it is so light a torque that is needed on those screws. Once in the fit will never be as close as the first time. I swear by Loctite and Tef Gel Antisieze. Nothing gets installed on my sled without one or another.I wish they had a big Ole dummy proof seal like the proaction sleds. Maybe the cat assemblers could get it right then.

Which Loctite are you use? I use the low strenght Loctite 222. But 243 maybe works too?
yes the blue. I am a fan of the Gel after spilling a few expensive bottles! Seems to work just as well. Red on all suspension bolts.Which Loctite are you use? I use the low strenght Loctite 222. But 243 maybe works too?

Self tapping screws? Wonder if that was just a 14' thing. My 15' does not have self tapping.

You are correct. Not selftapping like the 12's and 13's just looked again. Either way the Loctite seals the cheap screws.Self tapping screws? Wonder if that was just a 14' thing. My 15' does not have self tapping.

My 16 is going back in for the second round of gear case leak! Buddies came over for Beers and I found a Tampon hanging from my running board under leak Jerks! I will ask if dealer is using Locktite as well.
OMG Picture please. Well maybe not. Dont like thinking about those things. Gotta admit thats a good one!My 16 is going back in for the second round of gear case leak! '16 LTX-LE 137. Chain case never leaked or seeped until last spring when I changed the chain case oil at the end of the season (700 measly miles thanks to NY weather) by cracking the chain case cover bolts loose enough for the oil to drain (damn I miss my Nytro with a drain plug). Torqued everything back down the proper way and...yup. Now it is leaking. Well, seeping. Yes it is the chain case oil. I haven't started pulling it all apart to see if I can locate the exact spot, but from reading this ENTIRE thread, it is possible that a little piece of dried Loctite is causing this?
Yes. Personally I would just run it and see if it gets worse. Come spring remove entire case cover and tank, clean gasket well and grease the gasket lightly. Take a good look at top gear at that point also.'16 LTX-LE 137. Thanks Cannondale. Always appreciate your input.
Thanks! The more that case can be avoided the better off a guy is. I would fill it to top of window and ride. Thanks Cannondale. Always appreciate your input.

This was the exact problem i had when i did my first oil change.
I only seperated the cover enough to let the oil drain, then i closed it back up and refilled it dripped.
Upon taking it apart the second time i completely removed the chaincase cover to do a full inspection.
I found a little sliver of dirt/metal/crud stuck on the oring seal. There was a perfect indentation in the seal from it.
I cleaned it all up. Installed a new seal just to be safe and it has been fine.
From that point on, i have always completely separate the chaincase and inspect/clean the sealing surfaces.
It dont take much to create a leak, trust me.
