Fasteners are manufactured with the loctite already on them. The loctite is dry when the fasteners are installed.
When the screw goes into the hole some of the loctite gets stripped off of the screw. I suspect that is what happened in smoothride's situation.
Maybe my sled has the same problem. The dealer will let me know when he fix's it.
I refuse to wrench on a $16000 sled with ZERO miles on it.

My, those look stainless. Chain case and brake caliper both, shed loc-tite crumbs when I changed the track.Fasteners are manufactured with the loctite already on them. The loctite is dry when the fasteners are installed.

If i remember right the instructions in the manual they tell you to use compressed air to blow out the screw holes before you reassemble the chaincase screws. I know it says something about making sure the holes are clear.
Maybe its more important to follow the directions than people realise??

RTX this leak happened at the factory was a new sled. But yes for sure all that Loctite needs to be cleaned out. I used brakeclean and air. All the screws wire wheel,Brakeclean and air then Loctite and no breaks!

My Brand new 16 RTXSE with dipstick is wet as well! Oil is half way on site glass. Wiped off and will monitor it and post if leak reappears.

Check to the screws to see if they are tight. If they are tight then it will have to come apart. My Brand new 16 RTXSE with dipstick is wet as well! Oil is half way on site glass. Wiped off and will monitor it and post if leak reappears.

I just got mine back last week. They replaced the seal and I had 2 bolts stripped out. No leaks so far hopefully this works. Heading to Quebec on boxing day, better hold up long drive to be sitting in the hotel.

I've had 3 2016 units of these apparent leaks. The first one (162 LE EB) I took completely apart and found no cause for the chaincase to be leaking. I re assembled everything and after I cleaned it up with contact cleaner then I can see it sweating out again slightly where the skid pan and tunnel meet but nothing around the actual chaincase.
The other 2 units (137 LT-X EB & 129 R-TX) I just cleaned them with contact cleaner and ran them up. No more leaks.
I'm thinking that the apparent leaks that I found were from residual oil when the were filled on the assembly line.
I'll check a 146 S-TX when it comes in next week, they were one of the last units built on the line.
If anyone else finds a different issue please post I'd be very interested in seeing.

I've been in discussion with my dealer regarding this issue and Yamaha Canada has approved reseating the chaincase cover to correct this issue. Not sure if a new gasket is going to get installed or not. My sled is going in tomorrow. Krustymack and Barny McLean have just had their's fixed. Will provide an update after my sled gets to the dealer. For anyone who has a leak, contact your dealer and you should have no problem getting warranty repair. Yamaha is aware of this issue.
Cheers.

Getting sled back tomorrow. Will see what happens. I'm ruling out residule oil as both my buddies 2016's leaked after these were run for a short period of time. Mine was evident after a year as it is a 2015 and I found the leak when trying to install visor cable. Hopefully this was a simple assembly issue and I will not regret my decision to purchase another Yamaha!

Some of these are leaking for different reasons but don't panic if you see a few drops on your new sled. Both of our 2015 showed signs of a few drops when brand new and I cleaned them both with break cleaner and monitored it and nothing came back for last season. So my best guess was it was some residual oil from ???

Boy I am up I Quebec. I to limp out of of Bush an hour and a half from our truck and trailer. Ran my chain case oil out of my sled. I melted the tensioner and who knows what else. 200 miles on a 2016 ltx le. It was already in once to the dealer to fix thi problem. Called my dealer screaming at him. Drove 12 hours for a very short ride. Keep am eye on your fluid level. I think this is going to be a very big problem
